just kidding... though these are singles and i think you can download and keep them for a period of 24 hours. or you could listen on such great sites as msn.com?

anyway, it's been nearly a year since you said you'd check out some neo-soul rnb and everytime i check, you still haven't. here's a little list of songs to check out. they shouldn't be hard to find as most are/were singles.

A Long Walk by Jill Scott
He Loves Me by Jill Scott
Religious by Musiq Soulchild
Half-Crazy by Musiq Soulchild
Untitled by D'Angelo and Raphael Saadiq
Me and those dreamin' eyes of mine by D'Angelo
Lifetime by Maxwell
Arroz con Pollo by Maxwell
Soul Sista by Bilal
Fabulous by Jaheim

And actually, read his first post. He started off with "just kidding", as in about the kazaa thing I assume. And then he suggested 24 hour trial files, and msn.com streaming audio.

Nothing wrong here as far as I can see. But I'm sure MtG will shut it down immediately, regardless, just because, well, he's a redneck and Speer isn't.

Except that downloading music is not illegal. At least not in Canada, and perhaps not in the US.

Uploading however, is illegal. And I'm pretty sure that downloading software is illegal.

It's apparently not illegal in the US either. Ming and the other mods won't say this though, as it is a touchy subject.

Having said that, it would be nice to have some clarification as to whether people could talk about this legal activity or if the owners have personal, rather than legal, reasons for not wanting it discussed.

You don't say? How curious. Like I said, you wake up one day, and reality has just subtly shifted on you. Do buildings called "libraries" still exist in this alternate timeline I have somehow managed to stumble upon? What an infinitely fascinating world this is.

I think ol' monkspider is possibly ignorant of the fact that libraries have already gone through the court process in re: to copyright violations and now (I believe it was a USSC decision, though I could be pulling that out of my ass) have a number of legal arguments supporting their work, including:

1. People support libraries with taxes or donations, therefore the community purchases the books and therefore the community owns them. Since it is more likely that a person using the library is a taxpayer of that community, no harm, no foul.

2. People borrow books from the library and return them. Napster users tend to forget that last little bit. Also, don't expect to walk into a library and indiscriminately copy every page from your favorite sci-fi novel - that is illegal, and libraries won't allow such things.

It's a good thing old man "T" is here to share his infinite wisdom on this subject. In order to resolve the question of copyright law in this strange new parallel dimension in an amicable manner, I will simply return all of my mp3 files to my local library. Thank you for your time good sirs.

Napster got shut down for assisting in sharing files. The RIAA so far has not sued anyone for downloading, but only for sharing.

If you download and don't share, it isn't clear you are doing anything illegal. You definitely aren't in Canada.

Well that's what I said. In the US its different. The government have people up on charges for illegal downloading of files. It ain't sharing which is only illegal, but also downloading (you know, possessing stolen property that you know to be stolen).
