Three Consuls AND the MoW? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Trip tells me, in chat, that Arnelos and "especially" nye want all 3 Consuls and the MoW present to play the turn.

What the heck?!?

Our Con was specifically set up so that we don't have to have all three present. Is there something very important going on this turn that needs all three to be here to play it?

I don't want to hear about this stuff in the future as the turn arrives. If there's special circumstances for this turn, then we should have been told about it ahead of time.

NYE did indeed want this and I agreed that IN WARTIME, it makes sense to try to do this each turn. During war, our turns are important enough (and the pace of play slow enough) that we can perfectly afford to set a standardized time so that all of the Consuls and the MoW can be present for chat.

In peacetime, things are different. The nation is able to make long-term plans that the Consul handling the save in chat merely has to execute each turn. Turns run quickly, there arne't too many critical decisions to make IN CHAT, and we can afford for there to even be only 1 Consul present.

So, the way I see it, I agree with NYE that attempting to have most of the cabinet present for war chats, where critical decisions affecting the future of the nation are made IN CHAT, is a good policy. In peacetime, I'd think we don't need so many.

Does that not make sense?

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

My intent in the turn time was and is that the Consuls and all Ministers know when to be available for playing turns. In war is more important, but it is a good idea in peace as well.

The intent was not to delay playing the turns. I blew it last night and did not show up, because I did not think we would get the turn. However, we did, and I would not have been upset in the least if Trip had done the turn.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

It is my impression that we are not really at war anymore though. GCA is gone from our sight.

If you want to set up a specific time to play the turn every time, that would increase participation, but that would also slow the game down a bit. Are we willing to do that?

I am. Getting more people involved and having fun is more important to me than setting speed records.
