Even with the bugs, much to entertain oneself with. I might be sad, but I like the extra music, and the 'feel' of the conquests

Odd...

Gold-per-turn has been confirmed to be fixed?

We are talking the 1.12 patch here, not 1.02 - right?

Yes, I have 1.12 and I just don't understand why it still doesn't work.

I like it, I am playing Conquests 1.12.
HOWEVER, I AM currently LOBBYING Five ISSUES

namely;

1) Ability to reload 'saved games' back into editor as is and continue on making adjustment, switching side etc.

2) Barbarian editor controls, massive uprising trigger, timing number which camps or percentage thereof. As well to raise cities.

3) Access to AI routines for to tweak AI use of modded units and particularily to improve AI use of arty and leaders.

4) Access to goody hut routines, triggers and actions.

5) More detail map generating options and again particularily the Ocean percentage down to 20%.

It is a great game on the edge of precipace, it needs better Editor Wings to endure...

Sincerely,
Just another one who cares...

Jon, pick it up and see the new traits. The game is at least playable all the way through now that the FP works, albeit in a weaker way than was intended.

bah, Civ4 will follow the same pattern:

"hey, this game is unplayable out of the box"

(after 2 or 3 patches)

"the game is playable now"

(after 6 more months)

"this game is the best thing since sliced bread!"

(on the other hand):

"are you kidding me? this game doesn't even come close to Civ3 greatness"

(and a booming voice from the past says):

"are you... kidding me? civ2 is... still the Great One"

Oncle Boris did you start a new game with the patch or continue an old one? I am not seeing the gpt issue and the FP has been tweaked. Yes Iknow many still do not like the corruption, but it was altered.

Major. Probably won't happen, if it did it would be in a HUGE patch, not in a beta, and more likely only in an expansion (read: wait for C4).

2) Barbarian editor controls, massive uprising trigger, timing number which camps or percentage thereof. As well to raise cities.

Probably some significant changes to the code there. Not likely for a while (even if they do decide to implement it) and definately not in a beta patch.

Some of this is already planned - such a fair MP map generation.

From what Jesse was saying, much of the trouble with civ3 is legacy code from previous Sid games, all the way back to Gettysburg.

Supposedly, with Civ4 they are starting afresh.

Gee, Skywalker thanks for update I think...

Fortunately, I practice and believe in magick!!

No matter old code, worthwhile tweaks and work-arounds are still advantageous and given the excellent narration of Alex above, it might even seem preferable to setting ones hopes upon CIV IV.

Besides years have already passed by... Well anyways new game built from the roots up is itself a wide open and exciting topic, I openingly wonder if the Firaxis croud et al have what it takes?

So, I generally prefer to parrot and bug, bug and bug them so more about patch, mod and widening the Editor yet ever a little more...

Fun gaming,
I have new idea though in working with what is, how about the advance barbarians that come out early second age as a massive uprising and in my scenarios that means the sudden addition of some 1500 raging cossacks all across the planet. Be 'workers' instead that way we can just enslave vast hoards of workers. What an idea huh?

C3C was playable as released IMO, at least as SP - I don't multiplay, so maybe it was worse for those guys.

Yes, the bugs were a pain.
No, corruption didn't make the game unenjoyable(especially once you get Civil Engineers).

I guess "playable" is as subjective as "fun". I thought it was both pre-patch(beta, beta, beta) but some did not.

It is fine for SP with the patch, but pre patch you were going uphill at the higher levels. It was just to hard to over come that gpt bug with no FP either.

Get a bigger avatar today!

I'm not hugely critical about specifics, and with recent events I've been unable to buy C3C or play any Civ until just last week, but I've found 1.02 to be easily playable and fun. I suppose I will stop after my current game finishes to wait for the official patch (I decided, perhaps not to my benefit, to forego the beta patch), but so far in early medieval age (not had a lot of time to play since I got the game) it's worked fine.

hm, you're probably right. I think that Jesse Smith mentioned June 2004 as the release date... it is a very long time.

On the other hand, playing with the beta patch and the bugged FP now may create bad habits in players, and when the official patch is released (with the FP "fixed"), there will be a lot of whining ("why did you change the FP again?")...

That is what's so GREAT about new releases/patches/games -- You get to discover and learn how to work with all the changes! With no changes, it gets boring sooner.

Just be glad none of us are those 'professional gamer' types who enter tournaments for cash...otherwise we'd all be getting stick for 'legacy practices' rather than 'legacy code'

Can I be the booming voice for Civ 1?

Although seriously, the exploits seem to be lessening game on game. Let's be honest, if Poly and MP were around back when I got the Civ demo on ST Format 50 and promptly went for the mag subscription (which then went on 3 years, BTW - another tale, another day...). Free gift? Civ of course

Anyway - back then, all the MASSIVE exploits (incluing 1-space ICS, something I came up with in the demo, and forgot for a DECADE!!!!) seemed like no big deal and were very tolerable. Let's face it, for all the *****ing, Civ 3 is quite probably much better than it's ever been.

The sad truth of folks that complain about something being spoilt forever is that change 'sours the taste' of a long-appreciated item. And, not being accustomed to the new 'style/taste'.....
How do I know? Been there, in other items. I must say, having moved on/'got out of the mud', I find far fewer things have been 'spolit forever' when they get upgraded

Forgive the ramble, I'm gettig tired...long-day tired...

I defer to your judgement, WS.
OTOH, I am somewhat glad that they left for BHG. I bought Rise of Nations, but it did not age well for single player. It became quite boring (but RoN being RTS, boring in a "twitchy" kind of way).

This might be the reason. But then, I'm quite pissed my that older games started without the patch installed are now worthless. So... all right, I guess C3C is just fine then.

what is this talk about a Jan 10th patch? I thought the "official" patch would be released only in June. Is it just an update to the beta patch?
