I would suggest Construction - though at what pace remains an item for discussion.

We can trade Literature and Currency plus 2 IOUs to MAST for Republic (as mentioned in the MAST Communication thread) too.

I would also go for Constr. Aqueducts are a help, and as Sharpe says, we can trade for the other techs.

I'm not sure how feasible researching construction will be. Duplicating research of a 20-point tech will not be easy, even with the cost reduction from Sunshine knowing it. It certainly won't be cheap either. I think we should shut off research for the moment (or rather, for the moment once Lit is secured) and see if Sunshine will agree to a future trade of Lit for Construction with us owing them 10 points and/or a certain amount of gold. If they won't strike a reasonable deal, then we can go LL and research it ourselves.

I agree with Kloreep. No need to research an extra tech if we don't have to. And we can bank gold for future rider upgrades if we can strike that deal.

The amount of gold required to even out a Literature (10) for Construction would be enormous! Based on the 20-25 gold per tech point that has been the market rate so far we would be talking Literature +200-250 gold for Construction ! We need that gold for upgrades.

I realize that at 100% tax we could get that 200 gold in just 7 or 8 turns, but we should wait to see how long Construction will take before making that decision.

That's why I think we should try to go with IOUs instead. 10 IOUs is pretty enormous, but I think we should at least try. We could try taking the truthful tack, explaining we don't like the situation and won't (or perhaps stretch and say can't) trade away so much gold, but that we would like to propose the trade to try to keep deals going rather than researching Construction ourselves, which leads to neither of us winning.

We can certainly try to for 10 IOUs but I would be thrilled to get away with 5...

Though good point re Sunshine getting something for Construction from us (Lit + gold/IOUs) rather than nothing if we researched it on our own.

If they do agree we would need to mutually agree on WHEN the trade should take place so that both of us can get our barb fighting/blocking forces in place if possible...
