No, no, no. The Kurds THOUGHT they had captured Saddam, it turned out they had captured this guy instead. Now the Kurds are in trouble for manhandling their fake Saddam.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

All the reports had american troops standing over his hole in the ground with grenades in hand so it seems very unlikely that the Kurds found him first (especially when you consider that it was just blind luck that they found his exact hidey-hole anyway).

Where was he captured again exactly?

Wasn't it in the Sunni triangle South East of Bagdad near Tikrit? If that is the case, it is several hundred miles from any Kurd controled territory or forces. Doubtful it was the Kurds.

And Sava, the only thing more ignorant than believing everything the media says is not believing anything the media says.

Its not impossible that they were among the intel leads (obviously we got info from somewhere and they might have been part of that...and actually there was a trail of intel, tracking people until closer to his inner circle.) They might have also helped with securing the area. Nothing wrong with that.

But the drugged Saddam held for a month and then dumped in a hole? Puh-leez! Burden of proof is on the conspiracy theorists. This reeks of people who want to come up with some desperate Buxh-hating. Sounds like the same group that thinks Bushknew about 9-11 and let it happen.

I suggest you take another look at a map of Iraq.

Tikrit is more than 100 kilometers North of Baghdad.

Well, you see, that is why there was a "?" mark and an "if that is the cas" there. I should have known better than to aske a not sarcastic question here.

It is 75 miles north of Bagdad is still 150 south of mosul, and Kurd territory is just north of that.

Maps are fun aren't they Mercantor

You dont have to look at any maps to realize that Tikrit (Saddam Hussein's hometown) is not in Kurd (the people he gassed) territory.

Doesn't that hurt your eyes?

That you dislike the Bush, Reagan and Thatcher is not the whacky part. It was the insertion of Hitler (thereby invoking Godwin's Law, btw) that made your post looney. But you know that, you little troll you.

you think maybe the defeat of the Iraqi army allows the Kurds to operate farther now? just a thought

nah, I just think he is incompetent and ignored the threat... but, you have to wonder when you read the PNAC literature claiming a "Pearl Harbor event is necessary" to invade Iraq.

Wrong again, Kurd territory reaches down to Kirkuk, and Tikrit is closer to Kirkuk than Baghdad .

@SpencerH: It obviously isn't in Kurd territory, but as American allies the Kurds may well be across most of Northeast Iraq... I don't know the situation exactly, but it certainly isn't as unlikely as you're trying to make it.

Two choices, as advertised, american troops captured Saddam Hussein. Alternatively, the kurds actually captured him but the americans claimed it was their troops and have kept the truth hidden because (insert pet conspiracy theory here) and despite the boost to kurd/iraqi morale if they had indeed captured him and loss of iraqi-american trust if the truth came out.

I live by Occam's razor. The choice is obvious.
