Poetry Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Hell to make this thread last longer heres a poll for you people. Simple, straight forward question. Do you like/read poetry or not. Of course the banana option will be included this time.

This is a general thread on peotry. Never used to be my thing, but well I wrote a few pieces last year and am now trying to get back into it again.

So yeah, any of you people writers or anything? Feel like sharing pieces with us, even pieces that you didn't write but are special to you or your fav piece.

As I said just a general thread about poetry. Discuss in any way you see fit. As long as its related to poetry.

(wonder how quick before this dies)

Right. So hardly any of you folks enjoy reading or writing poetry?

Interesting.

Well. Cause noone else is and I'm feeling like sharing I'll share this little piece here, I don't know if it classes as poetry but close enough:

Hush now - As the drifting silence falls and decimates the green pastures of our world
Hush now - Gently the swish of the schythe is heard as the dark lord makes his way, ploughing the harvest that God has grown
Hush now - As death approaches, the schythe swinging closer, know in your heart I will protect you
Hush now - Gently death takes you and I stay behind failed in my task, looking behind, and seeing the truth at the end of the light.

So yeah.

Here's one about Che's cat.

A communist, I vow!
I asked her who her hero is,
and she responded, "Mao."

Che's never had a communist cat. He did have a cat who was a slobbering anarchist, though.

And Che's 2 cats could never be communists. They're too whiny, demanding, begging for attention, and... nevermind.

Not a big poetry fan, probably because we read and analyze unto death in AP lit.

Of course, since I don't really enjoy much of it, I never have found any good, obscure poets, but I do like some of the more famous ones. Frost is good, and some of Dickinson's stuff too. There are others that I have enjoyed, but names escape me at the moment.

I liked it. I love poetry but mine tends to go to the darkside, so this was right up my alley. As is this.....Edgar Allen Poe...but a few lines

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-
Only this, and nothing more."

here's some.

divine apathy

lord of creation,
father of it all,
all across the universe,
your power does sprawl,
in your divine creation,
our spirits you enthrall.

you created the world,
you spawned humanity,
and in turn they worshiped you,
in the form of christianity,
but as it turns out,
your fallacy lied in vanity.

you sit far away from us,
watching us as we try,
you sit there and ignore us,
as we begin to cry,
the only comfort you offer,
is that you'll be there when we die.

but, I ask you this now,
as we gather in a throng,
how can we believe you,
if you left us alone for so long,
how can we believe in your afterlife,
when life is so horribly wrong?

humanity suffers together,
we all feel the pain,
and yet you sit in heaven,
with interest that you feign,
you began to lose followers,
the apex of your bane.

you did nothing to keep them,
your flock went astray,
you let them all grow weary,
you let your worshipers run away,
you gave us nothing to believe in,
your existence began to decay.

and so you died,
like all your creations do,
your divine realm,
science began to accrue,
you were only alive,
because people believed in you.

you thought it was over,
you created the land and the stars,
you didn't feel the need to help anymore,
you left us to heal our own scars,
but now it's coming back at you,
your apathy is met with ours.

many would ask you to come back,
to establish some kind of rapport,
people pray to you every day,
with good wishes they implore,
but i am like all too many people,
i just don't care anymore.

so i shall break the bondage,
of this omnipotent cosmic boss,
i shall set myself free,
your rules and judgments I will toss,
i shall leave you,
forever crucified on the cross.

i'd rather live a lie

peering in the mirror,
focusing on my eye,
looking at my life,
i'd rather live a lie,
i realize how little i have lived,
and i slowly begin to cry,
any allogation of this,
i shall surely deny,
it's not acceptable,
just because i'm a guy,
living in my cycle,
unable to defy,
i have nothing,
simply because i refuse to try,
if i do not want to live,
why don't i just lay down and die?

decay

no matter what you have today,
be sure to remember,
nothing gold can stay,
possesion is fleeting,
everything fades away,
even the only body you will ever know,
will someday be subject to decay,
in a world where nothing lasts forever,
what do you really have anyway?

cogs

money makes us work,
mindlessly we drone,
greed is our weakness,
to the dollar we are prone.

working in unison,
the metals that make us clashing,
helping and hurting the whole,
all the while, forever gnashing.

looking back it all,
silently we forever whirled,
we are all just cogs,
in a cold, heartless, mechanical world.

locking myself in

life is a series of rooms,
seperated by many many doors,
you run from one to the other,
locking away everyhitng you abhor.

i run from everything i know,
glancing behind me, sticken with ghast,
slamming the door behind me,
locking away my past.

as i shut the door,
i hear a banging from inside,
screams from my own voice,
a part of me left behind.

as he screams for mercy,
away from the door i race,
thinking of him all alone,
with the things i didn't want to face.

i keep thinking back,
perpetually vexed,
and fear is growing,
for i know i will be locked in next.

the coldest hug

the void forever growing,
more and more claustrophobic,
sucking out all the oxygen,
killing all things aerobic.

looking all around me,
all the things i thought i had known,
the only thing i really knew,
is that im all alone.

the emotionless life i now live,
the love i have never known,
is it worth not getting hurt now,
only to die alone?

looking around me for a soothing touch,
or a warm comforting breast,
it's rather pathetic i know,
when the warmest around is death's.

running from the world,
i'm tired of being harmed,
all i need is a goddamned hug,
as death stands there with open arms.

cut to pieces

i've lost the game,
damn it's been tough...
nothing left to bet with,
no chance at all to bluff...
i tried so damn hard,
i gave it all my stuff...
the only thing i found out,
is that my best aint good enough...

it's all clear now,
the warnings i am now heeding...
but it's too late,
i have already finished seeding...
it grew quite pathetically,
this life i am leading...
cut to pieces,
but not bleeding...
dead to the world,
but still breathing....

one night me and my friend started shooting off halo poems for no reason. you won't get these if you've never played, and some of them are about people we play with, so you might not get those anyway

Shadowalker 218: Thank you for the frag
I told you not to touch my ****ing flag
Uber KruX: now theres a halfway decent rhyme @ 2:30 am
Shadowalker 218: lmao
Shadowalker 218: well, i tried and ****
Uber KruX: lol
Uber KruX: watch out, as i hurl this grenade-o,
watch the room turn into a vechicle tornado.

Which eventually evolved into...

Uber KruX:

you can see it fly across the map,
follow it, to the sniper you'd be led,
but you cant follow the tail,
when you were shot in the head.

take your time to traverse the map,
at a slow but steady pace,
only to make it half way,
and catch a bullet in the face

you hear the boom but live on,
thinking the sniper is lame,
theres a ***** in the mountains,
damn Ash can't aim.

sniper on the base,
silently you trudge on,
nothing quite as funny,
as a flag bluddgeon

two warriors meet in the middle,
the battle is furious and bold,
it all comes down to the handgun,
****ing reload.

Uber KruX: lets do HAIKUS

stupid 2x zoom,
is that a tree over there?
nope, you're a dead man.

snowy sidewinder,
a landscape of white and blue,
too bad you're bright red.

major base assault,
naded 5 guys striaght to hell,
re-spawn in fifteen.

bring the flag to base,
get sniped right ouside the door,
peterseses syndrome.

sniper has four shots,
the trail will give you away,
only first matters.

everything blew up,
a jewbag screams to his team,
moskie in the base.

four T.V.s downstairs,
sixteen person C.T.F,
god, we're all such dorks.

ran across the map,
flag in hand, ducking fire,
where'd our ****ing flag go?

weak ass machine gun,
in a world of tanks and ghosts,
warthogs are no fun.

warthogs are useful,
planted on top of your base,
spawn to your deaths now.

i got a shot dude,
****, he made it to the base,
stop ****ing jumping.

halo kicks some ass,
but it gets boring quickly,
why only 3 maps?

think you're smooth there man?
playing matador with me?
ghosts can strafe, ****er.

tanks are double edged,
miss with it and you should bail,
one huge ass target.

i don't get the tank,
still vulnerable inside,
armor means nothing.

lurking in shadows,
a quick bludgeon from behind,
invisible guy.

why didn't you die?
i hit you so many times!
phear the overshield.

Shadowalker:

Nothing can describe the thrill
Of an amazing long range kill
My opponent gets a chill
When he realizes there's a sniper on the hill

four men in the base
can you get out before they respawn?
if you don't want to leave a trace
your best bet is a ghost run

Shadowalker 218: should i try my habd at a haiku?
Uber KruX: sure.
Shadowalker 218: it's 5-7-5?
Uber KruX: yep

the curve of the hill
that tank will get me the flag
crap, t'was occupied

guarding the blue base
All's quiet from the ladder
Rocket in your face

intruder in base
enemy respawns out front
he's taking the warp

Guarding the blue flag
Is that a ****ing rocket?
Cloaked **** coming in

A fresh beginning
Sudden death and long respawn
Betrayed by teammate

Enemy base clear
Player respawns on way out
Ha Ha it's Halpern

Someone has our flag
My teammates failed to kill them
It must be Morgie

Unoccupied tank
Approach with extreme caution
Romeo lives there

Enemy in base
Unexpected death outside
***** killed her whole team

Elimination
Where is everyone hiding?
Playing Al-Qaida style

Running through the field
Pistol shots all around me
Very nice try Bane

A shot from the trees
One shot and problem is solved
Leng thought he was good

Thanks. I wrote it about a year and a half ago. I'm wanting to get back into writing again but haven't found any muse for a little while. I must get back round to it.

I'll share another couple for you:

Gently now,
the need takes me
to see your face
feel your love

Harshly now,
the need takes you
to crush my soul
feel my torment

--------------------------------------------------------------

Rage, that insurmountable passion,
That builds within our facade.
How dare you,
Wrest the controls from my life.

(Just as a side note. The words Love and Rage can be used interchangeably in that last one.)

I used to write more than I do now, generally sonnets. I'll see if I can find any acceptable for Poly.

As for my favourite poetry, I'd probably say Milton.

When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,
And that one talent which is death to hide
Lodg'd with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest he returning chide,
"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"
I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies: "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts: who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is kingly; thousands at his bidding speed
And post o'er land and ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and wait."

Not quite Edgar Allan Poe:

quote:
Poe, E.
Near a Raven

Midnights so dreary, tired and weary.
Silently pondering volumes extolling all by-now obsolete lore.
During my rather long nap - the weirdest tap!
An ominous vibrating sound disturbing my chamber's antedoor.
"This", I whispered quietly, "I ignore".

Perfectly, the intellect remembers: the ghostly fires, a glittering ember.
Inflamed by lightning's outbursts, windows cast penumbras upon this floor.
Sorrowful, as one mistreated, unhappy thoughts I heeded:
That inimitable lesson in elegance - Lenore -
Is delighting, exciting...nevermore.

Ominously, curtains parted (my serenity outsmarted),
And fear overcame my being - the fear of "forevermore".
Fearful foreboding abided, selfish sentiment confided,
As I said, "Methinks mysterious traveler knocks afore.
A man is visiting, of age threescore."

Taking little time, briskly addressing something: "Sir," (robustly)
"Tell what source originates clamorous noise afore?
Disturbing sleep unkindly, is it you a-tapping, so slyly?
Why, devil incarnate!--" Here completely unveiled I my antedoor--
Just darkness, I ascertained - nothing more.

While surrounded by darkness then, I persevered to clearly comprehend.
I perceived the weirdest dream...of everlasting "nevermores".
Quite, quite, quick nocturnal doubts fled - such relief! - as my intellect said,
(Desiring, imagining still) that perchance the apparition was uttering a whispered "Lenore".
This only, as evermore.

Silently, I reinforced, remaining anxious, quite scared, afraid,
While intrusive tap did then come thrice - O, so stronger than sounded afore.
"Surely" (said silently) "it was the banging, clanging window lattice."
Glancing out, I quaked, upset by horrors hereinbefore,
Perceiving: a "nevermore".

Completely disturbed, I said, "Utter, please, what prevails ahead.
Repose, relief, cessation, or but more dreary 'nevermores'?"
The bird intruded thence - O, irritation ever since! -
Then sat on Pallas' pallid bust, watching me (I sat not, therefore),
And stated "nevermores".

Bemused by raven's dissonance, my soul exclaimed, "I seek intelligence;
Explain thy purpose, or soon cease intoning forlorn 'nevermores'!"
"Nevermores", winged corvus proclaimed - thusly was a raven named?
Actually maintain a surname, upon Pluvious seashore?
I heard an oppressive "nevermore".

My sentiments extremely pained, to perceive an utterance so plain,
Most interested, mystified, a meaning I hoped for.
"Surely," said the raven's watcher, "separate discourse is wiser.
Therefore, liberation I'll obtain, retreating heretofore -
Eliminating all the 'nevermores' ".

Still, the detestable raven just remained, unmoving, on sculptured bust.
Always saying "never" (by a red chamber's door).
A poor, tender heartache maven - a sorrowful bird - a raven!
O, I wished thoroughly, forthwith, that he'd fly heretofore.
Still sitting, he recited "nevermores".

The raven's dirge induced alarm - "nevermore" quite wearisome.
I meditated: "Might its utterances summarize of a calamity before?"
O, a sadness was manifest - a sorrowful cry of unrest;
"O," I thought sincerely, "it's a melancholy great - furthermore,
Removing doubt, this explains 'nevermores' ".

Seizing just that moment to sit - closely, carefully, advancing beside it,
Sinking down, intrigued, where velvet cushion lay afore.
A creature, midnight-black, watched there - it studied my soul, unawares.
Wherefore, explanations my insight entreated for.
Silently, I pondered the "nevermores".

"Disentangle, nefarious bird! Disengage - I am disturbed!"
Intently its eye burned, raising the cry within my core.
"That delectable Lenore - whose velvet pillow this was, heretofore,
Departed thence, unsettling my consciousness therefore.
She's returning - that maiden - aye, nevermore."

Since, to me, that thought was madness, I renounced continuing sadness.
Continuing on, I soundly, adamantly forswore:
"Wretch," (addressing blackbird only) "fly swiftly - emancipate me!"
"Respite, respite, detestable raven - and discharge me, I implore!"
A ghostly answer of: "nevermore".

" 'Tis a prophet? Wraith? Strange devil? Or the ultimate evil?"
"Answer, tempter-sent creature!", I inquired, like before.
"Forlorn, though firmly undaunted, with 'nevermores' quite indoctrinated,
Is everything depressing, generating great sorrow evermore?
I am subdued!", I then swore.

In answer, the raven turned - relentless distress it spurned.
"Comfort, surcease, quiet, silence!" - pleaded I for.
"Will my (abusive raven!) sorrows persist unabated?
Nevermore Lenore respondeth?", adamantly I encored.
The appeal was ignored.

"O, satanic inferno's denizen -- go!", I said boldly, standing then.
"Take henceforth loathsome "nevermores" - O, to an ugly Plutonian shore!
Let nary one expression, O bird, remain still here, replacing mirth.
Promptly leave and retreat!", I resolutely swore.
Blackbird's riposte: "nevermore".

So he sitteth, observing always, perching ominously on these doorways.
Squatting on the stony bust so untroubled, O therefore.
Suffering stark raven's conversings, so I am condemned, subserving,
To a nightmare cursed, containing miseries galore.
Thus henceforth, I'll rise (from a darkness, a grave) -- nevermore!

I do write lots of poems in French. I have participated in literary nights and received some praise from fellow poets.

My favorite poets are Arthur Rimbaud, Jean-Pierre Verheggen (belgian poet still alive) and Lautreamont.

Plenty of others are decent: Gaston Miron, Verlaine, Baudelaire, Hugo, Apollinaire, Tzara, Éluard, Émile Nelligan.

Ok, no one cares, so I'm shutting up right now.

Haha. Well not so much anymore. Probably hence why I can't get back into it. I've tried my hand at lighter stuff but it doesn't seem right. I'll see. I was going through a particular 'phase' when I was writing this stuff. Thankfully I seem to have left this phase behind.
