Threaten them with being charged with treason (consorting with the enemy). Beyond that, corporations will simply laugh at you and write a check to pay for any drop-in-the-bucket, half-assed fines levied against them...

Got spare money?

well theres 2 ideas:
Free trader: Complete devaluation of the dollar, get rid of such unnecessary things as clean air, water, etc.

Protectionists: Tariffs. Of course thats simplistic to the extreme, theres a 10-20 point plan put out by some people, and its fairly good, it includes such things as placing penalty tariffs on nations that don't import from the third world enough.

I agree with Tass: nothing

We also depend on the world as consumers. Perhaps it will encourage ppl not to immigrate, instead stay where they are and make their home better instead of ditching it for what they want.

Juche(SP?)!

With the exact same results as NK, however, its going to happen one way or the other, either we will correct the balance of trade, or enough wages will be destroyed, enough property and debt sold, that people won't even be able to afford the extremely cheap overcapacity the world has to offer.

Actually, after having watch a lot of Lou Dobbs special reports on weeknights called "Exporting America" I'm wondering why isn't it possible to consider ways to discourage corporations from exporting jobs so we can keep our economy healthy, and keep more jobs for American workers??

Because increasing tariffs are bad, m'kay?

edit: One example is the huge tariffs on automobiles, so that we could keep automobile jobs in America. Of course, American cars became utter **** (because of lack of competition) and the Japanese kicked our butts so bad, the auto industry in Detroit still hasn't fully recovered

Ah yes, Shrub the free-trader. With his support of agrisubsidies and tariffs on a broad range of products including steel (granted, he backed down when faced with the prospect of the a trade war), lumber, and textiles, he's a regular Adam Smith.

Hey Ramo and Tass were the ones advocating status quo. Ask them why they like Bush not me.

And yes given the extremist speak of the candidates and the attempts to buy Union votes, I would rate the Dem challengers as even worse than Bush wrt free trade.

To Dean's credit, he has expressed opposition to most agrisubsidies. Of course that bastard might reneg on this position (as with steel) if the argument over agrisubsidies (http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...threadid=105809 ) comes to a head. It's becoming very hard to support the guy.

Not to worry he'll win those southern votes with a good 'ole fashioned rebel flag waving. No need for ag subsidies.
