Alpha Centauri over ICQ Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Hello, im new to these boards.

Does anyone know a way to play Alpha Centauri through ICQ?
When I try the game just loads up to the main menu and nothing really happens. I guess I need to enter some parameters, but I dont know what thoes could be.

The only reason I am trying to play the game over ICQ is, im at University ( In Canada ) and my Friend has moved to Mexico, and since I am on University Internet we cannot connect to eachother because of Firewalls and such. However, I have been able to make it so we can send Files back and forth through ICQ ( we have been sending the Email save back and forth ). So I was thinking if it were possible to connect through ICQ we could play a normal ( NOT PBEM ) game.
