	Governments Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I am mid level of the game say 1345ad, playing goodmod apoly pack on medium. I am about three techs five techs behind the leader. I recently switch to democracy and had like all of my cities go to 68-70 happiness, because of war discontent. I am not all that all tha tgood at this. I have been reading all the forums for strategy from, min food and gold max work hours, after building cities have a specialist farmer until it reaches two or three in size. I am doing better than I have before, in any form of this game. Main Question is this which is better gov for this period. I was a republic until I looked at my closed rival and they were dem, so I switched, then the happiness drop to the above stated an average of 69. I was studying for communism, which is better for trying to catch up on the tech tree, with keeping the happiness levels up. After I switched to demo I had to rush buy a lot of theaters and shrine and arena, and just started movie palaces. Main question which gov is best for me right know. There are 8 civs, one starts wars with me for knoe reason, the rest are keeping to there selves. Any help will be much appreciated. Sorry for the book

It mainly depends on how you want to play. If you think that you'll be in a period of extended war I would try to get fascism, or drop back to monarchy if it will take a while. For peaceful times I like democracy until the later(better) governments are available.

I rarely if ever use Republic, the benefits just aren't worth the drawbacks IMHO.

As far as democracy goes, it sounds like you found out the hard way that you need to prepare your cities beforehand by giving them happiness improvements Those people that live under democratic governments always feel the need to b*tch and moan about something

To add to what Centrifuge said, you probably would be best dropping back into Comminism, building a load of Mines/Adv Mines on hills and mnts and Adv Farms to supplement the drop in production you take under a Democracy, then switch back to Democracy use some scientists in your highest +growth cities and build all happiness buildings including Basilicas.

I use Republic, I didnt use to but it has lots of advantages IMO, it needs all happiness buildings upto and including Arenas to max out the wages slider because Republic collects less commerce than Monarchy but converts more to science, plus it has more food and production than Monarchy. All that helps the drop in military support i reckon

I started out with the goal of Fascism right off. This leads me right to things I already wanted..(Gunpowder units, and Calvary). Right now I am also in Republic and trying hard to get to Fascism. What I cant figure out is that I will usually be offered Communism before Fascism and I will change to that simply to keep expanding my empire.

Feel Fascism is to powerful!

Makes the game to easy to win so I aim for Communism instead . Some AI factions will use this form of goverment and have the power to expand .But this makes for a good mid game fight .One thing to note: If you use Fascism you will be able to build Fascists units but you will lose them when you change goverment.
