Electricity Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

During my game last night (vanilla Civ3) I noticed that immediately after I gained the advance Electricity the speed at which my workers completed tasks doubled.

I was previously unaware of this.

I am playing the Persians but assume that the feature applies to all civs.

I rather think my preferred tech path may be influenced by noticing this.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Democratic government and discovering Replaceable Parts are the only ways to speed up your workers.

Either you are mistaking it for one of these or you have found something strange.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

When you're in the dark and you want to see,
You need uh...Electricity, Electricity
Flip that switch and what do you get?
You get uh...Electricity, Electricity
Every room can now be lit
With just uh...Electricity, Electricity

Where do you think it all comes from
This powerful...Electricity, Electricity
Through high wires to here it comes,
They're bringing uh... Electricity,
Electricity

Every building must be wired to use it,
Uh...Electricity, Electricity

Power plants most all use fire to make it,
Uh...Electricity, Electricity

Burnin' fuel and usin' steam,
They generate...Electricity, Electricity

Turn that generator by any means,
You're making uh...Electricity, Electricity

A generator is a machine that contains a powerful mag-
net that creates a magnetic field. When wires are rotat-
ed rapidly throgh this field then a current of electricity
is produced.

Now, if we only had a superhero who could stand
here and turn the generator real fast, then we wouldn't
need to burn so much fuel to make...electricity.

Benjamin Franklin flying his kite
Was searching for...Electricity, Electricity.
He knew that it had somethin' to do with lightnin',
It's all uh...Electricity, Electricity.

Rubbin' a comb with wool of fur will give you a charge of
Electricity (static) Electricity

Strokin' a cat to make it purr, you're buildin' up static
Electricity, Electricity

Electricity at rest is called static electricity.
Like in the winter wearing a heavy coat,
You get a shock off the doorknob.
Or you scrape across a carpet
And sneak up on your very best friend,
And zap 'im on the ear with a shock of -
Electricity, Electricity

Current flowing to and fro, makes a circuit of
Electricity, Electricity.
Voltage is the pressure that makes it go.
It's pushin' uh...Electricity, Electricity...
Watts will tell you just how much
You'll be usin'
Uh...Electricity, Electricity.

Powerful stuff, so watch that plug! It's potent
Electricity, Electricity.
Electricity, Electricity.

USC, it's been quite awhile since I heard that song. Brought back memories of my childhood. :nostalgic look:

EST, could it be that you switched to Democracy just before getting Electricity and afterwards you noticed your Workers' increased output?

The only use I've found for Electricity is that it allows Irrigation w/o fresh water, AND it is necessary for Scientific Method on the road to Electronics.

Perhaps it should increase Worker productivity. After all, Replaceable Parts allows your Workers to go to the local hardware store to purchase a new handle/head for thier shovel/hoe/pick instead of having to fashion one from a tree branch--thus speeding-up production. Why shouldn't the discovery of Electricity allow them to use Power Tools to help speed their building of things????

Inflate your Upload Space

Ah, I had never taken in the fact that Replaceable Parts has an effect upon workers.

I made the RP advance about three or four turns before Electricity so I guess I was just a bit slow to notice my workers speeding up.

Learning that particular side effect of RP probably won't affect my research path preferences because I make a bee line for RP anyway.

But I suppose it may reinforce that preference.

I used to have the VHS collection. I used it to also indoctrinate my ex-stepson.

Good to know that it's out on DVD.

Electricity is a prerequisite for Replaceable Parts. I guess before Replaceable Parts, it's too difficult and expensive to build enough of those electricity-powered tools to make a real difference in worker speed.

In RL, electricity did jack-all for worker efficiency for many decades. Replaceable parts (like standardized screws and bolts, fer chrissakes) did the trick.

Ever heard about the metric system

Same thing are happening now with computers as happened with electricity back then. First they just did the same old stuff in the same old way, but with new technology. After a while they did thing in different(and more efficent) ways, then they started doing entirely new things.
