I've Ordered New Golf Clubs Tired of ads?

Yes, a new set of Purespin irons 3-SW with Kevlar shafts for $230 thru eBay. The one part of my game I've been very unsatisfied with were my long irons, 2-6 irons, since for some reason I can't hit those irons as far as I feel I should. A while back I lost my 7-iron so I bought a demo 7-iron made by Purespin with a Kevlar shaft and diamond face and I was amazed to find out I hit it as far as my old Pinseeker 6 and 5 irons. The Kevlar shafts add weight to the club so you have to have some strength to swing them, but the pay off is worth it. Instead of hitting a 7 iron about 160-165 I hit my Purespin 7 iron up to 180-185, even 195 if I really try to muscle it.
I hope I can translate that into a 220+ 3 iron instead of struggling to reach 200 with my current 3 iron.

The irony is that I've gone to demo nights at the local driving range to try out various top of the line brands and even the higher quality irons did me no better than my old Pinseekers. I was getting frustrated - how can the pros hit the long irons more than 200 yards while I struggle to reach 200 with my 3 iron? I can hit my driver as far as the average pro, so why not my long irons. It sucks being 220 out and needing to muscle a 2 iron or hit a 5 wood. Okay, Rah and Ming... This spring I'll be getting some lessons with my new Purespins! Now I just have to get the transmission in the Camry rebuilt...

Oh yeah, I've also re-armed myself with a used Tour Edge "Bazooka" x-stiff shaft with 7 degree loft driver. That ought to give me even more distance on my drives, Now all I need are a good 2 1/2 wood for the fairways and a 4 wood and I'll be set... I discovered ""The Staff of Rah" (get your head out of the gutter, it's a putter ) works much better when I stand more upright and apply more pressure on the grip. I was trying to lighten up on my grip but I was erratic with the distance. Tightening the grip increased my distance accuracy.

I should be set, spring is right around the corner and I'm hoping to drastically improve my game...

I stick with my old clubs - now reaching the 20 year mark. It would just be too cruel to inflict my brutal swing on new ones

Heh, my Pinseekers are about 20 years old. I'm afraid the grip lines are about worn out. The Purespin faces are coated with diamond dust for longer life. So they say...

Damn, I'll have to play a lot of golf this winter in hopes of not falling farther behind. There's no way I can match you for distance, so I'll have to concentrate on the short game. I hope the staff of rah doesn't come back to haunt me. And yes, it was a more stand up putter. I also go for a tighter grip on the putter.

I was looking at new irons, but my wife gust have me an airline ticket for Vegas next month so that MAY delay my having money to get new irons. But on the positive side, I'll get a few rounds in out there, and then some more in the following month in Florida.

If you want distance you might need some surgery on your grip - I'm working on mine right now. It's worth a 100 yards.

Dang, another trip to Florida?

What's that AH? Sometimes I don't know when you're joking or being serious, but 100 yards extra has piqued my curiosity.

Well the power of your shot is related to your grip - that is unless you're one of these people who just use brute force to club the ball down the fairway.

My top hand got too rotated, which is called a "soft grip" and I'm working on improving it now at the practice range. Definite improvement in distance results, with less effort and a slower swing.

It sounds like your "arming" up for the next Apolyton Golf Tournament... This could be interesting.

Congrats on getting new clubs... as all real golfers know, it's a great feeling.

I'm still happy with my old irons... I do however need a new driver and utility wood/metal. Hopefully I can afford those come spring.

Okay, yeah, for a right handed golfer that would be the right hand rotating upward and toward the hole (counterclockwise). I've tried this to correct my hook and it does weaken the grip and reduce the tendency for the hook. A strong grip, with the right hand rotating clockwise, lends itself to a hook - good distance especially when the ball lands with the top spin produced by the swing, but it can be disastrous if you don't play the right side of the fairway. And when I do that I often push a straight ball down the treeline.

Ming - Thanks, but I'll feel better once they arrive. I'm a bit worried about ordering thru the internet but I just can't find these clubs anywhere nearby. I even called The Golfsmith and a couple other places up in your area when Kansas City and St Louis was a bust.
