I tried to find the worldseed for the one you sent, but is is 0 in the ini. If you have the 4000 from the new one send it now and the other later.

I don't know how to determine what the map seed is after the fact if it is not in the ini.

Well I have 2 but it is 3950 and 1950. If these wont work I will get a new map tommorrow. It seems like I start and dont finish a game a night.

I have no IDEA what a world seed is!!!!

ZIP FILE HERE

I had a terrible start on this map I played continents with all players. I got a nice hunk of land to myself but only gems and very little fresh water. I have no choice but to go far away to build cities.

That should work. World Seed is is a map number for the map generator. If you have it you can force the game to create the map again.

I don't seem to have your email so can you email a test to me. I thought I got it from the last save, but I guess not.

Question 1 what to research Pottery or Alphabet?
Question 2 what level to research 100% or 20%?

The answer is at Warlord doing either is fine, but if you are doing something else, you may want to reconsider. I choose Pottery at 100%. Main research is that you have no coastal city at this time and will need a granary. This changes if you met a civ that cantrade you that tech. Also you will not get the tech you are researching at this point, so why not take the cheapest one in case you pop a tech?

Dang accidently posted.

Wanted to ask why the worker is on the hill? You have a bonus grassland next to the capitol that should have been where the worker went. You are aiming to road the wheat I would guess, but that is the next tile from the bonus one.

The hill will cost you more worker turns and wil not be worked for some time as you have lots of forrest and bonus tiles.

Anyway I have run up till 1400BC. Dropped Russia to one city for 4 techs. Have an MGL to use. Curragh found other land mass, don't know if it is a small island or a contient yet.

I have a log and a few saves to send you so you can see one possible way to go. I have a 1910BC to go with yours.

I have no idea what you mean by bonus tiles at all. Im alittle confused at times about what to do about my workers.

After my last save I took the map about to 1100bc sent 6-7 archers to russia and they all got smacked down in 2 turns by a warrior a archer and 2 spearmen.

So I have no idea what you are doing to get to russia so fast and take them to only one city???

I am getting so frustrated with this friggin game.

what do you mean by you dropped russia to one city with 4 TECHS?

Is MGL a leader?

I dont really understand this sentence. I am really newb at this sorry. I know that yes I was aiming towards wheat but what bonus tile are you talking about?

I was given pottery by a tribe. I then reasearched warrior code. From there I tried to get Iron working. I dont know what is wrong but it took for ever and I never got it by the time I went to bed!

I mean a tile that is a grassland, but has a bonus shown my the ore or whatever it is in the center. Look at the Pedia for tiles.
This tile yields an extra shield.

"After my last save I took the map about to 1100bc sent 6-7 archers to russia and they all got smacked down in 2 turns by a warrior a archer and 2 spearmen."

I was lucky. I will send adetail log after I do my workout. Basically I ran into a scout quickly and killed it. Since this is warlord I was not worried and I felt this was an island with few civs.
My warrior scouts ran into some Russian warriors and I was able to stay on a hill to fight. By the time I found cities I had two elite warriors. Unless you attacked a city on a hill with walls and maybe a river, you had some very bad luck.

"So I have no idea what you are doing to get to russia so fast and take them to only one city???"

I think I took down 3 size 1 cities before they made peace.

"I am getting so frustrated with this friggin game."

Lets work on making it better.

"what do you mean by you dropped russia to one city with 4 TECHS?"
When I attacked their larger city (I did not notice if it was cap or not) I actually was only on the door. I saw 2 archers coming and felt I was pushing it. So I contacted them to see what they would do. They had two cities and 4 techs I did not have. So I made the deal for peace for the other city and the techs. I disbanded the city and started to leave. That is where it stood.

"Is MGL a leader?"

Military Great Leader. I got one in a battle and it is heading home.
I would likely use it to build FP to allow a palace move later.
I do not care for the location of the cap for this land. It is not cast in stone right now.

"I dont really understand this sentence. I am really newb at this sorry. I know that yes I was aiming towards wheat but what bonus tile are you talking about?"

The tile at 9 from where the worker is at the start. 9 being the number pad keys. If you look at the city view it is the tile that is being worked by you citizen.

"I was given pottery by a tribe. I then reasearched warrior code. From there I tried to get Iron working. I dont know what is wrong but it took for ever and I never got it by the time I went to bed!"

Ok if you get a tech from a hut it will not be the one you are researching. Two reasons people like to start with Pottery is it is cheap to research and it give access to granary. Now if I pop a hut for a tech it will be one more expansive than Pottery. NOt to mention I stand a good chance of running into a civ that has Pottery and can trade for it.

"Although the other civs were building wonders like crazy!! It was like one of those dreams were you run and run but go no where."

I did not mention but I build Pyramids and Collossus is about done.

I will send it after wokout, you may want to edit your address to phoney up your name. Some sites may grab your address and start hitting you with crude.

Anyway you will be killing Civ in a short while, so hold on.

Here is a shot of the city. See the tile being worked? Two food, one shield. Given that it is despotism we can tell it is a bonus grassland. Once a road is build we will get commerce. Once a mine is build we will get an additional shield and it will be 2 food 2 shield, 1 commerce.

Getting roads on worked tiles will give us commerce. Having tiles near a river yields commerce as well.

Doing this tile first leads us to the wheat as our next tile and we will have epxanded to be able to have it in our border.

Now we can see (hopefully the little white ore on the tile that tells us it is a bonus grassland. If not we can see one next to the wheat.

Note the warrior just finished and will be moving off to scout.

Well about the only thing I do well is explore. I had like 2-3 units other than the worker that I sent in 3 directions.

So those little white ores. should I always mine them? Thats what I have been doing!

So I take it you took their capital. How do you disband a city and what does that mean? That you gave it back for them giving you 4 techs?

I can rarley get one tech when I make peace with a civ!!! Much less 4. Wow!!!!

What did you use to take their cities archers or warriors?

With those bonus squares. Do they work like mountains in the fact that if they offer a shield does it offer your attackers a better defense?

The year was 3950BC and no units were in sight, so what units could have been out scouting? That is why I was confused. But I maybe just forgetting what the exposed land should look like at that point.

I can rarley get one tech when I make peace with a civ!!! Much less 4. Wow!!!!

What did you use to take their cities archers or warriors?"

I did not take the capitol I just threathened it. The reason they would give all they had was they had lost 3 cities and many units, plus 3 or 4 settlers. That is very stiff so early. The AI was not capable of seeing I could not take the capitol at that time. Unless I sent all I had.

The peace offer was I kept adding techs until I had all they had and then I added a city and they took it. Now that I think about it the list had two cities, so that probably means they had 2 plus the capitol. So I did not give them anything back.
I went to the city and selected abandon. Mainly because it was too far away and had nothing in it and was in crappy land. So it is just rubble now.

So the amount of tech was a fucntion of beating them like a dog and them having it to give.
They had it to give as I did not research first tier techs and they prpbably busted lots of huts.

I used two warriors only, but fought individual units, except the first battle. They only counter attacked once with an archer and I was lucky the vet won and went elite. That was the only archer I faced. My thinking was it was a free shot. I was solid at home and I was hurting them.

"With those bonus squares. Do they work like mountains in the fact that if they offer a shield does it offer your attackers a better defense?"

You could save that. It has one shield just like a hill, but it has an exra food. I am not sure about defense, but I doubt it.

This is situational. I would say it is often best to go that route. Take Pottery as it is useful and cheap. If you find out you have a civ close by and they will trade you Pottery, then fine. Take it and research something else. If you are not able to get it from someone, then no harm done.

I suspect most feel they would rather try to pop a more expensive
tech, rather than research it themslef.

I played out to 1100bc to match yours and will send it to you. Starting to expand with 9 cities and two settlers ready to land and one more one turn away.

I screwed up and built the Mousoleum thing and trigger a GA, what a dummy. Oh well no big deal. So three wonders build and Great Lighthouse started. Still have not use the leader. Iron is far away as are horses. Researching Lit now. No other wonders available to build, but GL willbe soon. Giving a GA, that should be easy.

Question about colonies Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Hi all

Another question on my behalf:

In my desperate need for coal & oil I invaded babylon and maged to take a few key cities with the resources right next to them.
However when i tried to build a cololny with my worker i wasn't allowed to complete the action of building colony over the resource
Possible solutions:
1. the worker was a captured one...
2. the resource was still in enemy teritorry.
3. I pressed the build colony button and i dont know where to press next to complete the action (the adjacent city?)

Thanx in advance

You cannot build a colony in someone else's land. If you have a colony in neutral territory and your or an opponent's Cultural Borders expand to include the tile the Colony is on, the Colony will disapear and the resource will become available to whichever civ's Cultural Borders encompass it.

Also, you must have roads connecting your Colonies to
your Capital.

No road = no Colony.

Steven

I have done this for oil in a CivIII game way back when. I cranked out a settler and dropped him in a spot the assured the borders would cover the resource. Now all I have to do is road it, protected. In my case it was on another land mass, so I need to make an airport or hook to a city with a harbor. I forget which I did.

vmxa I was messing around with settings and got into a game. I didnt think I was going to continue it but I started doing real well. So I dont have any early saves of the map.

I think I might win this one by points in the time limit. BUT I dont think I could win it any other way. I dont see how you guys have any other victories. I have like 40 cities and im no where near any of the objectives. I have one city that has about 5000 cultural points BUT no where near the 20000 needed. I own only 16 percent of the land mass BUT it seems like alot more. Point wise im in second place but the celts (first place) is getting ready to go bye bye. My troops are on their capital and I just took their horses away......looking for their steel and then its all over.

I had a good start in it and built fast and attacked fast....took out 2 civs early.

As for the qustion earlier about colonies???? Do they contribute to your populations??? If so how much?

where is the disband button in the city view????

I don't think colonies count as pop nor do radar towers. To get big numbers of culture in a city you need to get that temple ASAP. You need to builld a number of wonders in that city and hopefully ancient ones.
I would think 5000 suggest nither happened. I would expect to have a number of secondary cities at that level by the end of the game. Total culture should be in the 6 digit range.

You can select units from that view and right click to see the disband option (this is off the top off my head). Same as from the advisors screen.
