I read an article on Debka ( an Israelian newspaper ) that stated it is quite possible that Saddam was being held prisoner possibly for the US reward money. Somehow the US found out about his location from his captors? and decided it would be in our best interest to get him ourselves.

There was a rumor or claim, denied by the Americans, that the Kurds participated somehow in the capture of Saddam. One of the theories was that they drugged him and left him in the hole to be found by the Americans later. Thus the reference earlier in this thread to Saddam looking like he was drugged.

These photos seem to disprove the theory of Kurd involvement.

Erm, that grey haired dude holding onto Saddam's right arm is not wearing anything like US Army uniform.

Could be a Kurd, could equally well be undercover spook - impossible to tell without further analysis.

Face looks familiar though - I'll try trawling some sites...

It was a job well done, whoever did it.

EDIT:

Here's a couple of pix to compare with that guy. Haamamin could be a younger relative... other pic is for general comparison of style.

Have you not seen Bitterfrost yet? Or any of Curt's other sterling work in the Civ 2 Scenario Forum? Or even any of the work he has done to help other scenario designers?
