Both my Dad, and one of my Leading Petty Officers (a CTA1) have worked with General Clark in the past. Both have told me that Clark is a Hard man who does not like being given information that conflicts with his viewpoint. And, perhaps more importantly, he tends to deny that anyhing he said in the past was (1) wrong or (2) that he said it at all. He's a political animal.

If it was just my LPO I'd be a bit suspicious (CTA1 is a bit loopy himself) but when Dad, Col USMC (retired) consistantly refers to him as an "******* who couldn't find his way out of a wet paper bag" I tend to think Clark is not what the country needs.

You know, the reason all this stuff is coming out making Clark to seem less liberal and more conservative is because the right is afraid of him. They know that he can beat Bush hands down, with no hanging chads to fuzz the victory. None of them seem to be pulling out Dean's wanting to cut medicare then not wanting to, or Kucinich's shift from anti-choice to pro-choice. This is because Dean is doing a great job of foot-in-mouth, and because Kucinich has no chance to win any delagates. Clark makes the right fear for their hold over the government.

clinton had the same type of change. He campaigned on less involvement in the Balkans.

There is no doubt that any fair view of the what Clark is saying now and what he said then that he has changed his views. That he denies this is the real problem and indicates the character flaw that probably got him fired for integrity issues and got him the profound disrespect of Franks and Schwarzkopf.
