The CtP soundtrack is played directly from the CD (it is a multi session CD, you can play it with an ordinary CD-player - but skip track 1, if you try!!!).
If you really want to use CtP for playing music, you can use the options dialog to temporarily turn off the music after you have launched a game, replace the CtP CD in your CDROM or DVD drive with any audio CD and turn the music back on. This assumes you have a full installation, so CtP doesn't need to access the CD after a game has been launched.
But as CtP has a rather cumbersome user interface for the music section, I'd rather suggest you use Windows media player (or any other audio tool of your choice) to play in the background. This gives hours of music without repetition, if playing music from your MP3 archive .
