Why should we need a placeholder? Should we care that everyone else will know?

After all they must realise at least the FP would be going there.

Because, I don't want us to get into the habit of giving Information away for free! Let them work (like we do) to get every scrap of Intel that they can try to get from us. No Intelligence Freebies should be given out, unless it's to people that we trust (relatively) AND they still should have to work to make a picture from the whole (because we don't, and won't, entirely trust them).

Let's take a for instance. Let's say that we are the first civ to get to Railroading. Let's also say that one of the other teams is in the final planning stages of attempting a war against us. Now, let's say that we only have 1 source of coal in our empire. And in a fit of democratic nearsidedness, we go and rename that city (assuming it had a name that wasn;t so glamorous or popular) to name that as some city that is synomous with Coal. The other team notices this name change and says "hey, they have coal there, lets make sure we send more than enough forces to either take that city and hold it or just to take it out of play entirely. That will really hurt them".

The lesson is, to make it as hard as possible from making that kind of Intelligence Leap. And all it needs is for us to use a little bit of common sense.

Or maybe "New [insert a city that we abandoned here]" ?

No, we can fix this. We go and change it and at the same time, change the city of X to something else. We can even time this with building another city (the silks in 2 turns, IIRC). THAT way, it will seem like it was a temporary name AND the new name will be the permenant (which it won't).

Yes to Apolyton Prime and yes to E_T's city renaming plan of doing three at a time.

I don't have any problem with it temporarily being called Phoenix either...that's the name of one of our new cities on Voxtavia.

There's a difference between that situation when other teams possess the capability of using the information against us (to head for the coal) and this situation (where the only team who can possibly be affected by it before we do the Palace jump is CFC).

Well... Following E_T's suggestion, I would posit forth the name "Not Our Capital" as the name for the citadel

and the temp name as: "_" to confuse people and not give out the information that there actually exists a city in that location (since no one can read its name )

or perhaps "F*** GCA" to celebrate our victory
