That's not good. From what I gathered, there was a bit of a dl scandal there, with Mongoose knowingly allowing dl's, or at least not doing anything about them. Its beyond me who would dl to rig a vote in a demo game, (well, I know of one certain fellow...)
odd, we definately need a ruling on the GCA thing before he leaves us. I can't imagine trying to bring a new mod up to speed, and give him an accurate appraisal. In other words, this might be just what GCA needs.

Good news! I just recieved this eamil from mongoose. It was addressed to alot of people:
quote:
Greetings all,
As you may or may not be aware, I have left 1bc. That being the case, we needed a new home for the ISDG if I was to continue as admin. So, our good friend Elucidus was kind enough to create a forum at CDG for our use.
The forum is at the bottom of the "Gaming and Competitions" section in the Civ3 board.
http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/c...forum.php?f=428
I have moved some of the stuff from 1bc already, like emails and such.. if anyone else wants something else from over there, let me know of feel free to copy it to the new forum as well.
I thought a forum at CDG would be a smooth transition since almost all of us are members there already, especially those who are preparing for the Upcoming Conquests game.
Now that I will have a little more time and less stress (for now), I can get some of the pending issues we have out of the way.
Thanks all,
mongoose201

I just got a reply from him on that problem:
quote:
(23:12:42) (@BigFree) Have you responded to MZ email yet?
(23:12:49) (@BigFree) *MZ's
(23:13:21) (mongoose201) That's my next order of business.. I have heard from Lucky as well, I almost get the impression he wants to get it over with
(23:13:23) (@WhiteBandit) it's mongoose!
(23:13:33) (mongoose201) *bows*
(23:13:54) (@BigFree) well, i should hope so, the longer he waits, the longer it damages us
(23:14:14) (@BigFree) I was really hoping that the peace offer would have been like 5 turns ago
(23:14:25) (mongoose201) I know, I'm sorry guys, I don't know if you read any of the stuff at 1bc, but things have been difficult
(23:14:31) (@BigFree) I was ready to tell our team to hold the turn until it is sorted
(23:14:51) (@BigFree) Yeah, I read it, sad story really
(23:16:33) (mongoose201) hehe.. apparently trip didn't get the memo... he just posted at 1bc..
(23:18:02) (@BigFree)
(23:18:32) (@BigFree) Can you tell GCA to send an accepted peace offer to us this next turn?
(23:18:58) (@BigFree) Either that or we hold the turn unitll you rule on it
(23:20:29) (mongoose201) in the immortal words of the Pharoah Ramses.. so let it be written, so let it be done... at least, that's what he said in the movie..I don't think he really spoke English
(23:20:48) (mongoose201)
(23:21:01) (mongoose201) so the answer would be yes
(23:21:25) (@BigFree) Thank you very much!
(23:21:41) • @BigFree runs around the room crying tears of joy!
(23:21:41) (mongoose201) where does CFC stand in all of this?
(23:21:52) (@BigFree) Oh, they are definately on our side
(23:22:00) (@BigFree) they figure to get peace jsut as well
(23:22:31) (mongoose201) ok.. I just wanted to clarify, since they don't seem to come up often in the discussions
(23:24:25) (@BigFree) right, they assumed that whatever our outcome would be there's
(23:26:43) (mongoose201) right.. It seems that Lucky hears only what he wishes.. he thinks that because of this, then if a civ loads a galley and moves across the ocean and attacks, that the same thing should happen when no more attacks have taken place... I think it more of a philophical deficiency on his part.. he keeps citing instances where he has attacked civs and nothing else has happened for a while because of their distance...
(23:27:10) (mongoose201) I have tried to explain to him that you guys didn't attack someone on the opposite side of the world, you attacked a neighbor
(23:28:00) (@BigFree) right
(23:28:17) (@BigFree) he will continue to see it his own way because it serves his purpose
(23:28:25) (mongoose201) certainly
(23:29:05) (mongoose201) I think we may be able to keep things halfway civil though (on the outside anyway), which I didn't really think would happen

speaking of GCA issues, this is the e-mail sent to Lucky by mongoose, we should get peace next turn:
quote:
Hi Lucky,
OK.. now that things are settled down (maybe), we can get to this. I apologize for the length of time this has taken, although I'm sure you probably don't mind it dragging out . Also, the extra time has been more of a penalty for Apolyton than it would have been if we had gotten to this sooner, which is fine for you since they attacked you, but it doesn't help us resolve this. I don't suppose we need to argue since we both seem to have our minds made up.
First, I want to address your question about being attacked from across the sea and then having to offer peace. I understand that this would be wrong to try and make this happen. But that is not the situation we are dealing with here. Apolyton and CFC attacked their next door neighbor, not a distant civ across the sea. The Neighbor used a game mechanic (legal of course) to retreat to a remote location far from the reach of the Civs in question. They didn't send a few galleys across to attack GWT, they attacked someone in thier own backyard, in effect. The question is whether we let a game mechanic which is not realistic for the time frame we are at in the game to determine the future of the game. I don't think it should be that way.
Now, I also understand that you feel betrayed by the two civs in question. (And I have learned firsthand about betrayal lately ). They broke treaties and did not conduct themselves in an honorable matter in your eyes diplomatically and I fully understand that you want to consider yourselves "at war" with them. Of couse, I can have know control over that, and I don't want to exert any control over the in-game mechanics either, but I feel that in this case, it is neccessary.
So, my ruling, is that next turn, you should offer accepted peace to Apolyton and CFC. Deal with them diplomatically however you wish, but I don't think a game mechanic should alter the course of the game when the civs in question have no reasonable recourse to solve the problem. If they had attacked you from across the sea, you would still be at war in all phases, but that is not the case here.
My apologies, I know this isn't what you want, but I have to do what I think is right, also...
regards,
mongoose201
