Havak, you have the unflinching support of France... these SH heretics would not recognize a game of Rugby even if it were right in front of them.

We are actually very similar races in a number of ways. Few nations match the passion of the folks on the British Isles for alcohol.

They might recognise it – they just wouldn’t like like it much. All that messy competing for the ball.

We the French are cartesians, we prefer to secure the game tickets before preparing the journey.

Far too sensible for 'Nous de la nationalité anglaise'.

As for that conference in Kiwi land here are the results:

the key recommendations, which will be taken forward for further discussion and consideration at the IRB's AGM in April are:
* The development of an education programme on the technical management and protocols for the scrummage.
* The development of an education programme in relation to referee management protocols at the tackle and ruck.
* Research into the maul to include injury surveillance, management, defence, binding and obstruction.
* That there be a consultative process with coaches and players with regard to the ranking of international games, and that the referee selection panel be extended to include a national coach and an international player.
* The laws are adequate in relation to decoy-running. But for clarification, the decoy-runner must be in an onside position. If he runs in front of the ball-carrier before the pass is made, he is off-side and liable to penalty (Law 11). After the ball-carrier has passed the ball, the decoy-runner must not obstruct opposition players (Law 10.1 Obstruction and Law 11 Off-side).

So where is the mention of reviewing points for scores? And that last bullet point will totally mess up the current Aussie/NZ style of back play - it mentions a need to be onside as the ball is passed. Sacrilege!!!

All it lacked from being a perfect conference was Clive apologising to Eddie for being a bad winner really.

I do have some contacts chasing tickets for me - but even if i have to watch it in a bar full of screaming Frenchmen what the hell - it beats being in Leicester!

He sits on the other side of the see-through fence and taunts Dermott to the point of apoplexy. Forty two kilograms of enraged grey and white hair bouncing up and down on the one spot is a sight to see, I can assure you.

Okay, if you really want to befuddle and bemuse those who trawl the OT forum looking for interesting thread titles, try this one:

Rugby - The Claytons Thread Title

You should, of course, from your days in the real world, before you moved to where you are, recall the drink called Claytons. Marketed as "the drink you're having when you're not having a drink", which led to the birth of the expression "a Claytons [insert word or words of choice]", meaning something that only appeared to be what it was meant to be.

Thus we would have a thread title that only appeared to be a thread title.

Rather conceptual but I like it...

Finbar, no reaction about the movie I mentionned yesterday: "Lost in Translation" from Sofia Coppola?

flipside, I am sorry but I don't know the movie or serie you are talking about, may be the name of the French version, if there is one at all, is very different...

Sorry, I didn't notice the reference to it amongst all the other drivel you were posting.

Haven't seen it. Mrs finbar saw it the other week and liked it a lot.

One film I did happen to catch on cable a couple of weeks ago was "State and Main". Written and directed by David Mammet - wonderful writer of such things as "Glengarry Glen Ross" - "State and Main" is a very funny story about a Hollywood film outfit arriving in a small New England town to shoot their film. Apart from being very funny, it's also astonishingly accurate in its portrait of filmmakers, writers and actors. I think it was released about 3 years ago. Well worth a look.

There's always been a massive shortage of single, straight males in Sydney.

It should also be on video and DVD. You should also try to see Mammet's "Glengarry Glen Ross". It started life as a stage play before it was filmed. Stunning film with Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon and others. It was released in the early 90s. It will be on video and/or DVD.

Why not? A Grand Slam, that is.

At home, with the English team in transitional "post WC" period, you certainly have the players.
IF you beat them, all you would need to do would be decent against us, and not commit suicide against anybody else.
My main problem with a French Grand Slam, as opposed to 6N, victory, would be the lack of quality decision making at 9 and 10, especially in a close tactical affair.
I think that we would push you and England beat you, in that type of game.

The main problem of the French team is the lack of good kickers, Frédéric Michalack must improve its kicks, he has the talent to become one of the best Half-Fly...

On the other hand the worst problem of the French team is Yachvili, he has always been terrible at the international level...

Gee, much as I hate to say it the only one I can think of off the top of my head is the final - pushing it into extra time with a late flurry of 'questionable' decisions seemed a little too 'convenient'.

I'd be surprised if this were actually the case though.
Surely it would have come under much more scrutiny much sooner given its relative importance ... ... The absence of the All-Blacks notwithstanding.

Agreed.
At some stage, at international level, you need to be able to dictate field position and create a forward dominance to win the big games

In my opinion, you have the forwards to do this, because to be honest, most of the packs in world rugby are pretty average at the moment. England are good, and, after that you are the best of a mediocre bunch.
The question I would ask is this .
Is Michalak capable of dominating a game, under pressure.
TRUST ME, we know he can do it with the ball in his hand.
A big thumping at the WC proved that.
The question is though, can he control a game with his boot, and, critically, know when to switch and do so effectively?

This chatter is all way over my head. I'll go back to trying to build Dermott's Tomato website. I'm trying to teach myself how to build a website.

See if you can view the pictures. Mrs finbar couldn't on her PC at work. I can see them on the Mac. I think I have to save the images somehow differently before posting them

Edit. The link doesn't seem to work!
