Pre-Modern war games? Get a bigger avatar today!

I'm interested in complex computer war games, but not in the typical world war I and II setting. Anyone have suggestions?

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

EU2.

http://www.paradoxplaza.com/EuropaUniversalis.asp

It does include non-war aspects and isn't exactly run from a tactical perspective but its pretty well done all the same.

there are loads on the Amer. Civil War. In fact id daresay the ACW is the second most common setting, after WW2. (I have Sid Meiers Gettysburg and Sid Meiers Antietam, widely available together and well worth getting for ACW grand tactical, and RELee:Civil War General, operational level)

If pre 1900 is what you mean by premodern there are alot. For good coverage of the whole 19th century at the operational level there is Age of Rifles. There are a bunch of Napoleonics games, and some decent 18thc (Horse and Musket?)

Ancient games are a tad rarer, theres the Great Battles series, not sure what else.

Hmm.. after doing some research I came up with a few titles, Chariots of War and Massive Assault both look interesting. However, they also both had bad reviews, has anyone here played them?

The Great Battles series looks perfect, but it's so old I don't know where I could find it.

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

I've seen some good print reviews for Massive Assault and its by Matrix Games who are at the serious end of the wargame market. I haven't seen any good reviews for Chariots of War that i can recall.
