More Units? Got spare money?

Is there a mod, hack, or patch out there that will allow a Civ 2 scenario to have more than a little over 2000 units (at least 2500 would be nice), and will it work in a scenario extant when the utility is installed that's already reached the limit?

No, many have tried, but it seems impossible to do

(not that I mind much, I don't really like games with too many units... )

It is the dream of many civ players.

But the quest to increase the unit limit has driven many men of genius to insanity!

Trying to get the civ publishers to release the source code could be an answer.

Microprose are no more. I wish we could get more units, with a unique sound for each, and different tyopes than air sea, ground heli. And anything being able to carry air or ground.

That source code must be on a PC somewhere!

Perhaps Firaxis/Atari might know?

For some reason, no-one seems to care enough to actually pursue it though...

@GoPostal... Test of Time can have more units, unique sounds, and different types of units (sort of).

I won't visit that place!

If given an email address to post to, I would make it a personal crudade to get an answer from the civ-production people!

I'm not sure, let's see:
http://corporate.infogrames.com/cor...wideoffices.php (the "game ideas" e-mail link is faulty, it's unsolicitedsubmissions@atari.com)
http://www.atarisupport.com/
http://www.firaxis.com/contact_gamefeedback.cfm

I'm not really sure where it would be best to start. I think Firaxis, because they're smaller and closer to the gamer and civ code, while Atari is closer to the legalese.

I'll try them!

But for now, I would agree that ToT is the only way to get more from civ2!

There must be at least one programer out there who worked with Microprose that knows how to alter the games code. Though it won't be easy, this is far from impossible.

If software pirates can find a way to write a crack that allows people to burn DVD's, then we can do this. Granted they are two different things, but my point is that its possible.

If you look in CivFanatics Download section, there is a patch (not FW) which converts Civ2 to FW, ask that guy.

That doesn't require any programming or reverse engineering knowledge. He simply has both Civ2 and FW, compared the files and rolled all the different files together to make the patch.

In theory, anything can be changed without any source code. But I don't think there are really any people around here that have the knowledge to be able to do that. Even with the Civ2 source code it'll be difficult enough to fix those problems.

Firaxis would be better, but I guess Firaxis has not control over the rights of Microprose, while Atari has

As Mercator said, with the source code it's possible although not easy. Without the source code it's still possible (you can always get the assambler code from an executable) but it's not hardly but extreme hardly and tiresome, to a point I think we'd need a complete team of full-time programmers working for some years....
