Ok, I just did some estimates on how our treasury is going to look over the next 10 turns or so.

I tried to take into account city growth/pop loss to settlers and unit builds.

On T99 (11 from now), I have us with ~680 gold in the bank. At that point we will have 2 more spearmen, 15 more warriors, 2 catapults, and... the 2nd galley, which finishes w/o rushing on T98.

We have 4 chariots still to upgrade. That's 80 gold. 15 warriors to swords is 600 gold (I know, we've built a few already... what is it, 3-4?). That's all our gold. But that's ok. We could change 2 warriors into a spear in Silesia, if we want, or we could just have a few extra warriors in reserve to upgrade as the money comes in, to provide homeland defense in case Monkey sends one of those Numidians around from down where FP is (don't want FP fighting Numidians, if they come after him, he runs. Discretion being the better part of valour, and all that ).

Anyway, I'm liking our financial situation. Hurray for the marketplace in CoS!

It's losing one out of five shields now, and would lose two out of six, and two out of seven.

It's losing 2 commerce out of 8.

It needs tile work - it's squeezed by Silesia and needs a hill mined and jungle cleared to progress much - enough to make good use of mkt/lib at ~40/60% on the slider. It grows in 6 turns, with the courthouse or library in 7 - so we can see how the commerce stands at size 4. The courthouse may still be the best bet.

We've got 4 vet warriors now.

When NW5 and NW2 have mined the grassland, should they get down to Coventry and start work on it?

The granary option in Burundy is looking better with every jungle and hill tile I count around our core.

Barb galley should reach our galley's holding point in 4 turns.

Also, I'm liking the idea of at least 15 swordies. With 4 on the amphip we want a stack of 10 on the march - using horsies perhaps for pillaging.

We'll see Monkey's map next turn, but I think they've spent some time on granaries + workers, and their terrain will be well developed for their Republic-GA to, frankly, rock - if we can't shut it down quickly.

The library offers the added benifit of border expansion in that area.

Definitely something to consider in 5 turns.

RE: NW5/NW2... possibly, but not definitely. IIRC, Izz's pump doesn't necessarily need to use the wine hill if there are enough mined grassland tiles to use. Since the one across the river should be used by CoS if possible (that city is a little short on developed tiles, IIRC), we may want to have NW2/NW5 mine Izz2 on their way to the Coventry area.

Agreed, I think granary in Burundy is a good idea. Jungle takes a HIDEOUS 24 turns for a single non-industrious worker to clear. So the teams of three still need 8 turns to do it. Workers, workers, and more workers!

It's only 1 barb galley, right? If so, I'm confident enough to let the Frumpy face it mano-a-mano. No need to rush a second one out there. If there were two barb galleys incoming... maybe we'd want backup.

I'm sure Monkey has been developing their terrain. They've got a fairly tight build going, and I think E_T is on their team, and he's pretty damn good at being Secretary of Labor (dunno if he's doing that in this game, but for the ISDG he's been pretty impressive). I think they also squeezed in a temple or library somewhere, because the last turn I played I noticed Monkey's culture just starting to eat into ours and Python's.

The key to the republic thing is to try and give it to them *right* before hitting them, so they go into anarchy for at least 3 turns while we attack. Or not giving it at all - that's still a possibility. We're not under an obligation to give it away.

I'm leaving in about a 1/2 hour. Won't really be around again until Monday. Hold the fort!

Oh, just a random thought: first jungle tiles to clear: Silesia 3 and 33. Both river tiles, useable by either Silesia or Coventry.

Names for our troops, by the way (not to mention the NW's )?

I make one non-Izzard naming request: if any horseman gets promoted to elite, I'd like it to be renamed "The Nine" (it's something I've been doing in SP for quite some time, though typically only with leader-generating horse units. Yeah, I mean the Nazgul. I'm a Tolkein geek).

Feel free to nix that if you really don't like it. For the others... if you can think of Izzardian characters/references that even vaguely fit, name away.
