Ok, I just did some estimates on how our treasury is going to look over the next 10 turns or so.
I tried to take into account city growth/pop loss to settlers and unit builds.
On T99 (11 from now), I have us with ~680 gold in the bank. At that point we will have 2 more spearmen, 15 more warriors, 2 catapults, and... the 2nd galley, which finishes w/o rushing on T98.
We have 4 chariots still to upgrade. That's 80 gold. 15 warriors to swords is 600 gold (I know, we've built a few already... what is it, 3-4?). That's all our gold. But that's ok. We could change 2 warriors into a spear in Silesia, if we want, or we could just have a few extra warriors in reserve to upgrade as the money comes in, to provide homeland defense in case Monkey sends one of those Numidians around from down where FP is (don't want FP fighting Numidians, if they come after him, he runs. Discretion being the better part of valour, and all that ).
Anyway, I'm liking our financial situation. Hurray for the marketplace in CoS!

Also, I'm liking the idea of at least 15 swordies. With 4 on the amphip we want a stack of 10 on the march - using horsies perhaps for pillaging.
We'll see Monkey's map next turn, but I think they've spent some time on granaries + workers, and their terrain will be well developed for their Republic-GA to, frankly, rock - if we can't shut it down quickly. |
It's only 1 barb galley, right? If so, I'm confident enough to let the Frumpy face it mano-a-mano. No need to rush a second one out there. If there were two barb galleys incoming... maybe we'd want backup.
I'm sure Monkey has been developing their terrain. They've got a fairly tight build going, and I think E_T is on their team, and he's pretty damn good at being Secretary of Labor (dunno if he's doing that in this game, but for the ISDG he's been pretty impressive). I think they also squeezed in a temple or library somewhere, because the last turn I played I noticed Monkey's culture just starting to eat into ours and Python's.
The key to the republic thing is to try and give it to them *right* before hitting them, so they go into anarchy for at least 3 turns while we attack. Or not giving it at all - that's still a possibility. We're not under an obligation to give it away.
I'm leaving in about a 1/2 hour. Won't really be around again until Monday. Hold the fort!
