what about them
Violence has been threatened in this thread, which is traditionally a more severe charge than base personal attacks.
and btw - I'm not anti gay adoption. I do believe a prominent source of both male and female influence are best for healthy system of parental upbringing; but at the same time realise the reality of the world situation in that there are a LOT of children out there needing a family.
As has already been pointed out - better than a group home (or perhaps an influenced abortion)

Actually he is. He may have a past - but he's playing kosher today. Calling for a ban on immediate arrival; is altogether another sort of closed minded bigotry.

I know at least a half dozen gay and lesbian couples who have adopted children. I see them and their children every Saturday morning at Chinese school, and every month at play group. Based on conversations in the hallway between classes or over a dinner of takeout Chinese, these gay and lesbian parents do face issues that heterosexual parents do not have. Aside from issues of teasing on the playground, these gay and lesbian adoptive parents seem concerned about their ability to provide appropriate gender role models for their adoptive children. This is, in a sense, the reverse of the problem that these gays and lesbians faced growing up with heterosexual parents. The more serious you think that problem is growing up, the more serious it is when applied to your adoptive children.
All that said, the Florida court decsion is absurd. If it is legal to be a foster parent, I don't know why it is illegal to be an adoptive parent. Moreover, from a public policy point of view, the issue is not whether the children would be better off with gay or lesbain adoptive parents versus heterosexual parents or a single parent. The issue is whether the children would be better off in a loving home or in the state's juvenile care system or existing severely disfunctional familiy. If Florida's social service system is anything like that of other states, the answer should be pretty obvious.
I would like to see this decision challenged by a foster parent or gay or lesbian parent who moved in from out of state.

Skin color can not be "taught" nor is it a behavior. What you really mean is you want to perpetuate your brand of racism for another generation which pits people against each other based on skin color.
God forbid a black child not inherit your pessimistic outlook towards race relations and God forbid a white child not share your guilt.
Homosexuality is a behavior. I am told homosexuals don't have a choice in thier orientation. I am sure this is true in some cases and not true in others. It sounds a little prejudiced to me to say "all homosexuals ....."
Whether or not they have a choice isn't the issue though. (What I am about to say is gonna sound like gay bashing but it really isn't.) Adoption agencies and society have a right to decide what sort of behavior patterns they want a child's prospective parents to have.
Some thieves are cleptomaniacs (they have no control over thier behavior) other thieves do it because they choose to be. Now I am not making a moral comparison to homosexuality and thievery. My point is it doesn't matter whether or not someone has a choice about thier behavior pattern. It is the behavior itself.
It also isn't a question of whether homosexuality is moral or not If a child's parents were Lion tamers, society might say that might not be the best environment for a child to grow up in and at the same time not be "Lion-tamer" bashing. A more realistic example might be if the prospective parents were homeless. I doubt that they would be allowed to adopt children but there is nothing immoral about being homeless.
quote: The studies which show children do best raised in a family with a mother and father were looking at two-parent v. one-parent families. Obviously a children will do better in a familiy with a provider and a care giver. |
Again I want to see the study. Parents offer alot more then just being a caregiver and provider. If you haven't noticed most 2-parent families nowadays have 2 providers and 2 caregivers.
A mother and father can provide alot more to a child then a father and father or a mother and mother can.
In summary, I know where I stand on inter-racial adoptions - No problem as long as the parents are qualified. As for homosexual adoptions - I am undecided because I havn't yet decided in mind if homosexuality, for whatever reason, is a disqualifying behavior for raising a child. PLEASE NOTE - I SAID I WAS UNDECIDED.

In case you hadn't noticed, Black people and white people have different cultures. Being Black or being Italian or being Irish or being suburban American is something that is taught.

Yeah, that's what I want.

I wasn't aware that white parents were teaching their children to feel guilty. Nor are Black children taught to be pessimistic about race relations by their parents. Where do you come up with such things? Black people become pessimistic about dealing with white people by dealing with white people. Black parents are going to be better able to talk to their children about dealing with racism than people who've never experienced it.

Homosexuality is an orientation. It is who you are attracted to (which is rarely a choice). It is who you feel complete with. The baehavior is a consequence of this.
quote: I am told homosexuals don't have a choice in thier orientation. I am sure this is true in some cases and not true in others. |
I've never met a gay man who chose to be gay. I've never even heard of a gay man who chose to be gay. I know one woman who made a choice to be a lesbian, but that was after she was raped and she didn't want to have anything sexually to do with men after that.

Actually, most families these days have two providers and no caregivers, unless the parents work split shifts, and they never get to see each other except when sleeping. Fortunately television is here to raise our kids for us.

Why is that? On what evidence do you base this assertion?

?!?!?! BWAHAHAHAHA whatever you say; champion of justice. Apparently taking differing proportions of money from citizens for the same system offered in return is somehow "rightful"
Don't even get the right started on "rightful" discrimination against white hetero males. Gee - there's just too many of them out there succeeding, so something had to be done!
