There is only one turn that I have tried to resend 3-5 times now the last 7 weeks in order to get the game going. Why do you need me to post the turn here also?

Never mind, here you go again...

We did not have ONE single "accident" during the game, I only lost a few troops against the AIs in the start

And more, Dimytes actually won the game much earlier - with his excellent start and I getting stucked on a small usefull area with sea to three sides and a barrier of ice and babarians (the babarians was my own fault, I could just have kept my nose out of those damn ruins ) on the fourth, the game was his from something 'round turn 50-60.

BTW: Ice.

Blackice gave me a (small) lesson in his Island-game.

Ok bad boy. I have opened the turn before eating dinner, and I did see just too much. My meal was spoiled.

It seems like you did beat me getting SOTL enough only 3-4 (or maybe 5) turns before I would have bullied you - but I will fight for a little longer (just to be sure you didn’t got some lucky punches).

Anyway, prepare for a rematch as this game was my first with that Island-setting you use.

Blackice had actually about 30 SOTLs he wrote, so I gave up at turn 139. The number of turns he was "ahead" of me in science was 12-15 I now guess.

Now I have to see for a "victim" or two to make my way back to the top of this ladder (for rematches against the top-dogs ) .

You see? This argument disappears with the dual-duel format. I lost count of how many times players blamed their losses on starting position. There are two other alternatives that I know of that make for fairly even games without dual duel -- 1) All islands (no ruins) and 2) Standard challenge match settings except with wet/dry at 0% and warm/cold at 0%. These settings make very even games without having to resort to dual-duel (that I know you hate birdman )

Yes I hate that - just because you KNOW where your opponent is.

And that makes it a war-game from the start.

On the other hand..... IF - just IF - we played with full number of AIs instead of 2 and if possible maximum distance between the human players, then it MIGHT be somewhat more fun

Want to give that a try Steve ?!?!

i like the dual-duel format, even if it means war. however, i dont like the way the result is evaluated, with the first to win a game winning the match which means the more aggressive player will win.

Both of you bring up valid points. I'm beginning to lean more toward options 1 and 2 above. That is, 1) all islands, or 2) 0% wet/dry and 0% warm/cold settings. That seems to give a balanced setting without having to expose each other's starting location, or play two games at once.

Birdman, if you do not like war-games so much, if you remember in our non-dual-duel game, in our very first contact, your ship-of-the-line proceeded to bomb the living hell out of my settler! Remember, oh peace loving one?

i, for my part, dont have a problem with chance benefitting one player (as long as it is really random which one ), as that makes for interesting adaption effects and is compensated in the long run anyway. randomness is part of all things, so ...

I am the most peaceloving dictator ever playing CTP-PBEM

Thas is..... as long as I am the weakest part

A little serious again: IF I once again should play a dual game, I would like to try out how it would work with a Math/Dimytes setup (max AIs) or Blackice (Island-game).

Actually I combine both wet/dry concept and Island maps. Generally they are fair.

Birdy and I are going to have a rematch as soon as I get the time. I hope to get them all out tonight.

Yes Birdy when we touched and you sent longships I went straight to mills. Once the longships were taken out I went straight to caravans and infra. Once that was done I had all cities timed to pump out sol's So I had quite a few turns on ya with the sols.

I had 30 out and another 12 on the way, was a good game though you played it quite well.

actually, there is one more:
playing with as many civs as possible (usually 8) and seed the players on 6th and 8th place. this way, both will have equally bad starting positions.

of course, 7 and 8 are possible too, but then you risk being systematically neighboured instead of having a rather random distance.
