Trip said he will be getting back to participating in team Sunshine. He wanted a summary. I was preparing one to send to him. I thought it would be better to post it here as there are some of my thoughts that maybe other would like to see and others can add to it or correct me. This could turn into a discussion thread of where have we been and where are we going.
I am glad to see Trip return. I will be getting very busy starting in a couple of weeks.
Here is my summary...
There are four civs on our continent. Three other have not been found. Tab and Latin are the top scoring teams, us and MAST are at the bottom. The missing civs are in the middle. As you can see from the world map our continent is over half the world. There is a big emptyness in the east. I suspect the other three civs are on a smaller continent there.
Tab is to our north. In general they have been friendly, but they did back out of a tech trade deal some time back. I think it was for IW. We had a deal in place, waiting for them to complete their research to complete the deal. They ended up making a deal with the Latin team for the tech, which the Latin team got from us. That prompted us to start putting no trade clauses in our tech deals. Apparently the Latin team was selling it as if they were the ones that researched it. The Latin team tried to see the tech to MAST as well but we gave a better deal.
We were the first into the Middle Ages. Tab is about to be the second, as soon as they complete the offer we just sent them. The northern part of our continent is pretty well settled and has many units in between the civs. The barb problem will be in the south.
We are on good terms with all known civs, except for Latin selling our tech and Tab backing out of the deal; we have been trying to put those instances from the distant past behind us.
MAST has been very friendly with us and they want to form an alliance. I believe it will be for defensive purposes. Tab and Latin are each the size of Sunshine and MAST combined.
Although we are the tech leader I don't know how much longer it will last. Tab and Latin will be able to out research us with their populations twice our size. Our initial research advantage helped us and our willingness to trade has kept us in the front.
We have traded World Maps with each of the teams, and every few turns we trade again with MAST so we can see where the barb camps are.
Tab has settled the islands in the north, so they have galleys out exploring. I suspect the Latin team has galleys as well. I remember a piece of ocean on our world map that leads me to believe Latin has a galley. Tab and Latin are in good position to find the other civs, if they can be reached before Navigation.
Tab and Latin are aggressively expanding. It would not surprise me to see a war between those two civs in the Middle Ages, or maybe they each go after us and MAST as easy pickings.
Our cities are not very well developed. We have granarys in Sunshinia and Suntanland, and barracks in Sunshinia and Las Vegas. The tech research has been going much faster than we could build. Our first temple and another barracks are close to completion. Funky Town has been working on a palace pre-build for a wonder.
Latin and Tab both have much better growing territory, hence their larger populations. Tab has extremely good territory in comparision. They have lots of grassland and some bonus food for growth, lots of shield grassland for production, and three luxuries. It looks like they will be finishing the Pyramids. That will boost them well past the Latin team. Tab will become the real power on our continent during the Middle Ages, especially since their UU is coming and Latin, MAST, and us all have Ancient Age UUs.
