ATTENTION:

last year i did some tests with VMWARE (pc emulator for windows = virtual machine) and REMOTELYANYWHERE (app to control windows w. mouse over internet/browser.)

The point is to play roundbased SMAC with a standart Browser and this on any inet-connected machine!! (a dream)

!!! i was able to run smac(x) perfectly WITH MOVIES (but w/o sound) in 800x600 and even very playable in 1024x768) !!!

bad is i cant use my bandwith only for smac
maybe maybe i can find a place with high bandwith for my old amd 350 ... i would run smac there 24/7 for some hardcore fanatics.

if anyone of you may be able to do something similar please let me know!

BinT the downside with tuesdays is that mart is 7 hours behind us and therefore at work.
Is it possible for you to arrange a few hours spare at the weekend ??

Hey lazerus sorta pointed me to this thread, I can definitly play on weekends, late into the night even. And most weekdays are okay until 12 PM. (Eastern Standard Time, GMT - 5)

Ok if we've got till next weekend we could quite easily ask somebody to generate a map or scenario where we're already all placed in good positions.
On a sidenote (dunno how big 55x110 is) but a large map on IP play will really lag when the game has to do the updates so i'd keep it to standard or below.

Instead,can I receive savegame from one of you after each weekend game,so I could see what does it look like..
It could be posted as download in thread,so everyone could watch it..
Especially the last turn,before someone achieves victory,so we,The Observers could watch the replay..

Is that Lazerus/Travkin/Mart IP game still sheduled for this tuesdays evening?

Hi,
the point is, that I most time have ICQ disabled and sitch it on only if I know another wants to call me. I'm only reding the newsgroup daily. (takes less time)
So if I get not an email right early, I see not what is planned.
But this weekend is ok for me.

However, I just remember that there is an SMAC incompatibility of the XP patch with those who don't have it. Problem is not for SMACX.

So I can't play with SMAC and XP patch, only w/o patch or SMACX

confusing ... one can play smac (terran.exe) with people who use smacx (terranx.exe) ? please explain.

with smacx you have 2 options: either play smac.exe or play smacx exe.
If ou play smacx.exe, all must have it, but you can play the smac factions nevertheless, using its smac.exe or its smacx.exe (both are in).
If you play smac.exe, all must have same, means, those with XP patch can't play with those w/o that patch.
As the patch is for smac only, not for smacx, you have with smacx all open, except playing smac with users having XP patch, but you can play both, smac and smacx and in smacx you also can play smac faction, and those with XP can play smacx as well, w/o patch.

So with smacx you always have the better and more compatible way. and much more abilities and the game is overall better than smac.

he means just play smax so that those who don't have the xp patch don't have to download it...basically....i think
we can either play regular smax or smac using the smax cd.

As for times for me to play its either fri night/sat afternoon but sunday is probably best since i've got all day free.

you know, 5 is the max wha t is stabile by IP, and if the server and connection is not really fast *for all* you can't use simultan. (depends what the slowest connection is, not what the server is)

if we play an IP we'll play with original rules and factions, as setup by hosting player, and there isn't a way to include another faction than these 14 originals
