I apologize if it isn't kosher to ask this, and if it's been asked before, but I tried a search and couldn't find any info on it. So anyway, I'm wondering if there are any cheat codes available for Civ 3? I looked at the usual cheat code sites (gamefaqs, happy puppy) and tried the ones they suggested (lemur, multi, etc.) and none of them worked.
Any suggestions? I'm trying the second hardest level and just wanted to experiment with something, because I keep getting my butt kicked.
Thanks!

i think if you start the game in DEBUG MODE you can add units and change stuff at random during game play.
Enable debug mode in the scenario properties page.

You can do that? Isn't that in C3C? Or is it in all versions of Civ3?

In the Editor you can practically make yourself an uber-civ, then start up the map you created.
Then again, this is for people who can't even win on Cheiftain level. |
I am aware of this I just did not want to encourage this dunderhead. Cheats are great for games which require a good deal of maual dexterity. Losy shot? No prob.. just enable easy aiming. Lousy pilot? No prob.. just try out the GOD mode. Cheats in games which primarily rely on intelligence and strategy should not be needed. (I can just see CQCQ sit down to play a game of Chess and ask Kasperov if there are any cheat codes)

Of course, a person of intelligence would also have known that it's spelt "Kasparov"... ;-)

Nope, I'm just trying to figure out how a particular process works, and the easiest and quickest way would be a cheat. I don't plan on cheating through the whole game.
asleepatthewheel, do you happen to remember which trainer you used for that?

Try this one, I think its what I used. when I used it, it was in German, but it wasn't too difficult to figure out how to use it properly.

Valid points, Mad Bomber.
Then again, in some extreme circumstances cheating might be needed to keep from losing through no fault of your own.
Here's an example...
I remember several Civ 1 games. I got wiped out in 3600 BC when I had the misfortune to be next to a war-like AI. He managed to acquire a militia unit, and he walks into my undefended city. My city was going to have my own militia built the very next turn.
This has happened once or twice to me in Civ2 as well.
Situations like that... cheating should be allowed so you can beat off that 1 milita, then build your own militia the next turn... then cheats off for the rest of the game.

I know it has never happened to me in Civ3. I was merely offering an example.
True, Civ1 and Civ2 might have been bad examples, seeing the differences between these and Civ3, but the concept remains the same... "Loss through no fault of your own" or "Loss before you can do anything at all" are kind of dumb.
About planting spies... they should offer the 3 options... immediately, normal, and safely.
immediately = 1x base cost, normal = 10x base cost, and safely (no anger or war) should be 30x base cost.

this is my favorite trainer,
http://cyberman.agava.ru/f/cht/tr/cm-cv3tr.zip
'Sid Meier`s Civilization 3/Play The World/Conquests' +3 trainer, V 3.00, 16.11.2003 (AVault's 'CheatMaster's Choice' award).
3 options:
1. 100,000 gold
2. +1 tech per turn
3. and always hurry with money (under any gov),
and includes ability to hurry wonders
personally I like playing with the 3rd option enabled only
as I never liked the sacrifice crap,
and I for one think that wonders of all things you can build
should be hurryable (sic).
The first 2 options spoil the game imo.
so use at your discretion.
