Cheat codes? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I apologize if it isn't kosher to ask this, and if it's been asked before, but I tried a search and couldn't find any info on it. So anyway, I'm wondering if there are any cheat codes available for Civ 3? I looked at the usual cheat code sites (gamefaqs, happy puppy) and tried the ones they suggested (lemur, multi, etc.) and none of them worked.

Any suggestions? I'm trying the second hardest level and just wanted to experiment with something, because I keep getting my butt kicked.

Thanks!

Yeah, I did quite a search a few weeks ago, and came up with some trainers, but no cheat codes. You could always just use the map/scenario editor to set yourself up very nicely with whatever you wanted, however you couldn't stop in the middle of the game and change things again.

Suffering from ads?

I remember the Civ2 options to cheat or set up scenarios.

In Civ2, you could play halfway through the game, then set up a customized scenario with ALL your cities, units, etc. from your epic game. Or you could add or delete a few cties, etc.

I think that was one of the best editors. I think Civ3 or the anticipated Civ4 should incorporate this, so players can create almost infinite numbers of scenarios and possibilities.

With Civ2 editor / cheat menu / Scenario Editor, I could set up new worlds based on the "Sliders" TV show.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

@ Mad Bomber

You can cheat yourself... give yourself 20 of Modern Armor, Battleships, and ICBM's at the start of the game, such as 4000 BC in the Editor... Also, you can give yourself all traits, set yourself to Democracy at 4000 BC, give yourself 100 cities, etc. at 4000 BC if you want to.

In the Editor you can practically make yourself an uber-civ, then start up the map you created.

Then again, this is for people who can't even win on Cheiftain level.

I am aware of this I just did not want to encourage this dunderhead. Cheats are great for games which require a good deal of maual dexterity. Losy shot? No prob.. just enable easy aiming. Lousy pilot? No prob.. just try out the GOD mode. Cheats in games which primarily rely on intelligence and strategy should not be needed. (I can just see CQCQ sit down to play a game of Chess and ask Kasperov if there are any cheat codes)

Nope, I'm just trying to figure out how a particular process works, and the easiest and quickest way would be a cheat. I don't plan on cheating through the whole game.

Sorry, not a chess fan nor a linguist expert but I trust you got the jist of the message I was trying to send. My intent was not to cast aspersions just to record my disdain for many people who do not wish to put forth any effort in trying to win.

CQCQ: The debug option is better than the trainers. Just open up the editor, start a new scenerio and click on the bebug option in scenerio properties.

Valid points, Mad Bomber.

Then again, in some extreme circumstances cheating might be needed to keep from losing through no fault of your own.

Here's an example...

I remember several Civ 1 games. I got wiped out in 3600 BC when I had the misfortune to be next to a war-like AI. He managed to acquire a militia unit, and he walks into my undefended city. My city was going to have my own militia built the very next turn.

This has happened once or twice to me in Civ2 as well.

Situations like that... cheating should be allowed so you can beat off that 1 milita, then build your own militia the next turn... then cheats off for the rest of the game.

I disagree; if that happens, you have very little invested in the game anyways, just start over. (if this happens too much then increase the distance of the CIV's or reduce the # of civ's you play against) Granted was a problem in Civ 1 & 2 but in CIV 3 it really should not be an issue. The only cheating that I actively advocate is reloading when planting spies, the frequency in which AI's declare war is just unreal.

I know it has never happened to me in Civ3. I was merely offering an example.

True, Civ1 and Civ2 might have been bad examples, seeing the differences between these and Civ3, but the concept remains the same... "Loss through no fault of your own" or "Loss before you can do anything at all" are kind of dumb.

About planting spies... they should offer the 3 options... immediately, normal, and safely.

immediately = 1x base cost, normal = 10x base cost, and safely (no anger or war) should be 30x base cost.

I’m not certain that’s true.

I would be perfectly comfortable with an “in game cheat.” CPT2 had one IIRC. It’s one thing to go into the editor and give yourself a great start, extra settlers, units, or whatever. But that tips the scales from the beginning. A cheat would be more interesting when you are playing at far higher levels, want play fair up until you are beaten or hopeless, but wish to continue the game just to see how it unfolds in that rarified air.

i found 1 funny thing you can do:
declare war on a civ
make contact ASAP
make a deal for them to give you everything they have for a peace treaty
AND
9999999...etc gold per turn
the ai will get confused by the absurd amount of money and immeadiately agree

i did that once when the babylonians were @ war with me and i only had 1 city left

Now see, I can see some justification for cheating... for instance, in Galactic Civilizations, if the computer is snatching all the class 20+ planets... I can see teleporting... In Civ, I could see using a trainer to rush in a wonder, especially if they build it and you're down to two turns with full production, and there aren't any other wonders to build...

this is my favorite trainer,
http://cyberman.agava.ru/f/cht/tr/cm-cv3tr.zip

'Sid Meier`s Civilization 3/Play The World/Conquests' +3 trainer, V 3.00, 16.11.2003 (AVault's 'CheatMaster's Choice' award).

3 options:

1. 100,000 gold
2. +1 tech per turn
3. and always hurry with money (under any gov),
and includes ability to hurry wonders

personally I like playing with the 3rd option enabled only
as I never liked the sacrifice crap,
and I for one think that wonders of all things you can build
should be hurryable (sic).

The first 2 options spoil the game imo.

so use at your discretion.
