Put an end to popups!

A suffocatingly small room, decorated with gaudy flock wallpaper, pictures of dogs playing cards, teary eyed moppet haired children, and Liberace and gangsta rap on infinite tape loops playing 24 hours a day at a just uncomfortable volume.

The chair has one leg shorter than the others, the seat is broken, an dthe material covering it is pilled and vaguely like crimplene.

All my clothing is stretch nylon, and it is very hot.

My eyelids are taped open, and the television (Imax style screen) is showing schmaltzy television versions of biblical stories, advertisements for Conservative political parties and t.v. evangelists and Anthony Robbins infodocs.

My arms are in handcuffs, my mouth held in a clamp, and Ben Kenobi feeds me Velveeta and jello on stale sliced white bread from a hypermarket (definitely not a small baker's) whilst talking incessantly about why gays aren't allowed to marry and why a zygote should be given voting rights.

I think the best hell would be TOTAL sensory deprivation, plain and simple, except for exponentially increasing stimulation of the pain nerves, forever. Assuming your neurons didn't explode or anything, I doubt you'd ever grow "accustomed" to the pain.

Wow, it made its way to Australia, too? Cool. Yeah, it was awesome, especially that guy. "You know guys, back in Sweden we have two criteria of death - dead and very dead. This guy here is very dead."

To complete the threadjack, I understand Stephen King was inspired by The Kingdom to make a similar story for American television. He won't - especially not in the eyes of the Danes - match the quality of von Trier's masterpiece but it could turn out allright.

I saw the first series in Great Britain, then SBS (a channel dedicated to showing foreign television with subtitles where possible) in Australia showed it.

I think it's actually better than some of von Trier's films- the atmosphere of gloom and foreboding is like Dinesen's 'Seven Gothic Tales', and I love the spectral ambulance, the monstrous birth, the psychic Downs Syndrome narrators, and so on.

Absolutely inspired, and very funny too. I love the opening credit sequence in the bleaching marshes, and the soundtrack.

Oh. Well, as molly bloom's meaning of "make your hell":

There's another small room. Someone's got the damn heater five degrees too hot. So Fez, my room mate, acts like he's too warm so he strips down to his boxers. I go blind, but my eyesight is restored so I suffer through the horror again and again. Eventually I cower in a corner, but then he starts talking about how Ronald Reagan and George Bush are national heros, and how all the liberals are wrong due to moot point X. Helicopter blades are heard chopping in the distance.

Just kidding

The part with sitting in Handcuffs on a chair, clothed only in Nylons sounds to me like a perfect normal evening for People who are in BDSM

But of course the part with the TV-Preachers and Ben Kenobi would be too cruel even for People with years of experience in BDSM

I've yet to meet a 'devout' atheist. 'Devout' as in 'earnestly religious, reverent, in religious mood, prayerful': Oxford English Dictionary.

That's the kind of airy fairy hocus pocus associated with religionists and cultists, isn't it?

More fresh hell locked up with those people. Jesse DuPlantis Ministries, Benny Hinn, Falwell and Robertson, Bakker and Swaggart, Oral Roberts and Donald Wildmon- devout and vile, vile, vile.

"Devout Atheist" is the best phrase I could think of to describe those who go on the warpath for atheism despite the fact that their belief system is not a belief system at all, but a total lack thereof. It's an oxymoron in the traditional sense-the contradiction is used for emphasis. I won't name names, but there are plenty of Devout Atheists on this board...

I don't mind you propagandizing for your own beliefs but the notion that atheists 'devout' or otherwise lack a system of beliefs is a crock of steaming equine faeces.

Just because we choose not to go the route of Big Invisible Friend baby pacifier doesn't mean we're lacking in beliefs or a belief system.

I suggest you educate yourself with a quick trip through Hellenistic thought, Renaissance humanism and as many non-religious tracts dealing with morals and ethics as you deem necessary to enlighten you as to what varieties of belief are entertained by those not mumbling in front of rocks, statues or pretty pictures, or the meanderings of itinerant goatherders.
