Lonestar,
Wait a minute.
I went back through the whole BAC story, and I remember you posting something about a Stargate on Beta Hydri 4 or 5 (forgot the #).
Also, I remember Stargates being mentioned in the BAC Datalinks.
I'm just trying to close up all plot loopholes by eliminating the Goa'uld.
There aren't any Asgard, Nox, Tollan, or any Stargate aliens because they were all eliminated or driven out of our galaxy in the 21st century.
The Goa'uld will be all wiped out, so there won't be any Goa'uld or Tok'ra anymore.
The only things left of the Stargates would be the gateways themselves.
Its a simple and clean-cut solution to the Stargate stuff in the Datalinks and on Beta Hydri.
On another note, I could change the Genesis thing to a different name. The concept remains the same.
It *is* possible in the BAC universe, with nano-technology, and powerful power generators to generate proto-matter.
In many ways, BAC's level of technology surpasses the technology in Star Trek. The only thing Star Trek has that BAC doesn't have are shields and teleporters.
Trek ships don't have nano-hulls, neutronium armor, artificial intelligence on a large scale (Only 3 true AI's in Star Trek... Data, Nomad, and Voyager's Doc).
So a human civilization or nations in 2700 AD, with all the technology available in BAC... the Genesis concept is possible.
I don't plan on including any other cross-overs anytime soon. The only two I'm guilty of is Stargate (just to tie up the Stargate stuff mentioned in earlier posts and datalinks).... and Star Trek (the Genesis concept).
I remember we were talking about a "massive threat" that could happen after the Progenitors. I had one enemy in mind... the Antarans.
But other than that, I'm pretty much finished with obvious cross-overs.
So, relax, Lonestar.

Don't worry about it, Prez.
Once the Goa'uld are dead, there will be no more blatant cross-overs from me.
I'm just trying to close the plot with the Stargate civ's and the answer to the "What happened to them?" question.
I looked through BAC again, and I noticed a couple of cross-overs that were partially blatant on the part of the Protectorate.
1. Starfury fighters and some Babylon based names and ideas
2. Base Delta Zero, Star Wars

My intention was merely to point out that this is fan fiction. As such, crossovers happen. So there's no reason to fight over this.
In fact, I strongly believe that "god-modding", or stat-boosting, or whatever you want to call it, is, should it appear, more dangerous to the story's integrity than crossovers.
For instance, if things were said along the lines of "Drone ships are built too strongly to get torpedoed", or "Protectorate Marines never surrender", or "University AIs can't ever be probed", etc.

Well, I think in the case of the AI's not being probed you could chalk that up to the Hunter-Seeker Algorithm.
I'm trying to tie my stuff with the game at least. I.E. Thought Control, Cloning Vats, and one more that escapes my thoughts.
I do agree that god-modding/stat-boosting is a problem, and there should be concessions made. For me, sure I got numbers, but my tech is fairly low....and I'm more than willing to make it so that we (meaning the Hive and myself) don't seem invincible. I just want to make them sound rather a difficult target to get rid of.
Basically, I'm trying to follow the games way of balancing things. I'm treating the Protectorate as a Spartanesque faction, where they got the discipline and got the balls, but don't necessarily have the numbers (as compared to the Hive).
Spartans? I talked to Sprayber on this a number of times and we see eye to eye.
Uni-Lightyears ahead in terms of Tech.
Drones-Industrial powerhouse surpassing us. Basically Hive and Drones I'm treating as (almost) the same. Dont hit me Crimson!
Morgan-Credit rich. Credits buy lots of stuff in space.
Cadre-Spartan with a different flavor to them....as befitting their history.
The rest of the factions I'm still trying to figure out how they would be ingame.
But anyways, I totally agree with Crimson in that godmodding is dangerous to the integrity of BAC.
Still going strong after all these years!

You got me. I did indeed mention a stargate in the BH system...after you did. Then I promptly ignored it for the rest of the story.

I couldn't find ANY mention of Stargates in the Datalinks, although I could be wrong.

That's fine, in fact, that's outstanding. For me, you can steal names and concepts all you want from other sci-fi, but when you drift away from the more obscure ("The Race" names, BDZ which is only mentioned in a handful of SW EU novels...and not even the anchor ones) to the clear cut ( Events/ artifacts in promient ST and a certain George Lucas Trilogy( not SW)) it started aggravating me.

I don't recall arguing relative technology skills (in fact, I had thought that I'd made it clear the Protectorate was where it is today because of the Dosi, techwise)...just the titles you were giving them. In my eyes there is an order of Magnitude of Difference between me naming a ship after an obscure Numenorean one, and having the Genesis project, title for title. To to mention certain "Thrones of God" and references to the intrepid American Archeologist that aquired them.

I'm guilty of naming my starfighters starfuryies because....the Terrans had already named theirs Starfuries, and the Protectorate had stolen the design. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
I still maintain that I think the Expanded Stargate posts are and extremely unfortunate idea, possible the worse thus far...

Lonestar,
I just want to resolve things.
First, I'll change the Genesis references, to some other name.
Second, in regards to my latest posts, I'm putting together an story arc that will result in the elimination of the Goa'uld.
Basically, the Flyer 743 Jaffa character will be captured alive, then the UA makes a breakthrough in the Jaffa Solution, then release Flyer 743 back into worlds crowded with Jaffa.
Then the Jaffa will be taken out of the picture, resulting in a quick demise for the Goa'uld. They won't last long with the loss of like 90 - 95% of their Jaffa.
Don't worry, Lonestar. Once the story arc is completed, you'll see why I did what I did.
After all this is done with, the only times Stargates will be seen in the story is in historical references, or on Spira (the UA's secret colonies). In addition, there may be some extra references to the Stargates, but nothing ambitious, no Stargate invasion, or creating colonies in other galaxies. No stuff like that.
Other than that, the Stargates won't be used again until much later in the story, when the "massive alien threat" appears, or a little after that.
Deal?
Also, I won't be using any blatant references to other sci-fi.
The only reason why I did that in the first place was because I was running on fumes for ideas. Now that I have my plans set down, and I know exactly what to do with the University, I won't need any blatant references or plot lines.
If I do it again, feel free to kick my head.

Tactius,
The size of capital ships vary.
Aliens tend to have 10+ kilometer ships, like the Bree and Progenitors.
For the humans, it can vary.
Some factions prefer to build smaller ships for strength in numbers. These kinds of ships would be anywhere between 500 meters to 1.5 kilometers.
Other factions like the Protectorate, University, and Terrans would build medium to big ships.
These ships would be anywhere from 1.5 kilometers to 6 kilometers. The University has only a few 9 kilometer ships, a brand new class of starship, the Titan. The Titan would be a class above Superdreadnought and Battle Carrier, like in MOO3. The University developed the Titan class with all the newest technologies and the new quantum power reactors.
So it breaks down to this...
Alien ship size = 10+ kilometers
Small human ships = 500 meters - 1.5 kilometers
Medium / Big human ships = 1.5 - 6 kilometers
Gigantic human ships = 9 kilometers (Titans only).
Hope this helps. |
Hmmm... I'm thinking, then, that the ship would be about 11-12 kilometres long, but not a completely dedicated warship, so a 'modern' alien ship or a Titan or two could probably whip it's ass... and it's general tech level, while higher than the Cadre's present one, wouldn't be particularly outstanding, and it'd be in need of maintenance anyway.
So, basically, the whole exercise is an excuse to give myself an actual fleet and power base as compared to other factions.

Lonestar,
There will be the Progenitor War.
But I distinctly remember discussing a "Massive Alien Threat" that me, Sprayber, President, Franky, etc. were discussing a couple years ago.
This "threat" would come AFTER the Progenitor War.

GeneralTactius, any good website where I could look up info about these Shivans? I'd like to know some more about their background, abilities, history, traits, etc. |
Well, here is the official game webpage, and here is what they have to say about the Shivans - not a whole lot. From having played the game, I know that:
a) The Shivans are five-limbed beings with very strong claws, who apparently live in a vacuum.
b) They have very nasty ships.
c) They have shielding technology, but once shields are penetrated, they're finished (they apparently rely on their shields so much that they don't bother armouring their hulls).
Other than that, there isn't a whole lot known, so we could probably make most of it up to suit ourselves.

I'm thinking of writing up a post or two this week, to put a close to the Goa'uld issue once and for all.
My next post will be about the Jaffa Solution.
Then the one after that will be a suprise attack.
Then the third post will probably have the mop-up of the Goa'uld remnants.
Then with these critters out of the way for good, I can turn my attention elsewhere on more interesting plots. I've been thinking of working and creating a few normal UA citizens, then show their everyday lives, and how the recent events affect them.
I'll be able to REALLY focus on interesting aspects and plots. More characters, economic plots, culture, some expansion stuff, etc. I won't be writing much military stuff for a while.
However, I might have one or two rather short wars planned, quick n' painless blitzkrieg attacks. I also might post some more about the Titans, their history, how they came into being, etc. They're probably going to be the ships that the UA will fight the Progenitors with down the road. The older ships will be used for garrison duty, pirate patrols, and military campaigns aganist inferior targets such as minor aliens (The Goa'uld are a good example of this).
In addition, I'll expand more on Kalista and life on Spira, eventually exploring the 4 other Spiran type worlds to show how the UA built their secret colonies, and its impact on the human populations of these other 4 worlds / systems.
In short, I'll switch over to "Exploration", "Expansion / Colony-building", and "Life in the UA" type of posts.
Whew, a lot of explaining, eh?

I understand your reasoning, Franky.
However, space is a big place, and there are and will be alien encounters in real life and any logical extension beyond gaming limits (such as if I wrote a fiction story set in 3000 AD for Civ3, stuff like that).
I agree there shouldn't be too many aliens
However, I needed to introduce several alien races just for the sake of closing up a plot loophole, regarding the stargates.
As for the Spiran Worlds, there are only humans, as well as the Ronso, Al Bhed, and Guado. Other than tying up the Stargate plot-line, and the Spiran aliens, there are no other plans to introduce any further aliens into the UA.
Perhaps more aliens will be introduced, but not for a long time for the UA. The UA is going through a xenophobic phase, but the aliens within the UA are generally accepted, since they are humanoid and has been members of the UA for 30'ish years.
In short, don't worry. I won't go overboard with aliens after finishing the Stargate thing.
I also agree that the Alien Threat should be later
I stated several times that it should happen a while after the Progenitor War. I apologize if any of you misunderstood my postings.
Hopefully this post clarifies my viewpoint and where I stand.
