Minister E_T makes public ultimatum.
Apolyton, March 1st.
The War of Words between the Consuls and Mr. BigFree has reached a new height. Today Minister ET has stated an ultimatum against both the consuls and Mr. BigFree. The Minister of the Interior has said that “things have just gone a little bit too far”. The strong words of the minister do not come by surprise. Since some time many people have gotten uninterested in the Apolytonian politics: Mr. Vondrack: “The result? I no longer even read some of the posts”.
Consul Trip was interviewed after the publication of the ultimatum: “I think most of all, it represents how the team is basically tired of the constant bickering going on... I believe things will eventually work, themselves out but due to the nature of BF I doubt that this will be the cause of it”
Soon after the publication of the ultimatum reactions came from Mr. WhereItsAt, consul Master Zen, Mr. Vondrack and Mr. BigFree. While the first three agreed with Mr. E_T’s ultimatum, Mr BigFree’s emotional reaction was against it: “ET: Go take a flying leap you two faced imbecile.” and: “First you claim that the “war of words” has got to stop. I guess this doesn't apply to you. Because, then, later in your post, you berate me by saying that I'm foolish and that I make an A$$ out of myself.”
Not much later Mr. Vondrack responded to this statement by correcting Mr. BigFree: “It's not the criticism that is making others feel uneasy here. It is the way this criticism and responses to it are being presented. Your opinion may be harsh, that's how opinions sometimes are... you certainly are entitled to harsh opinions. The way you present this opinion should never be harsh. If for nothing else, then because you are hurting your own interests.”
It is now still to be seen what will happen after these harsh words of Mr. BigFree. Consul Master Zen thinks that statements like these cannot be tolerated: “That's it, someone should just call for a banning...” He does but not think himself suited to that in a reaction to his colleague, consul Trip, “nah, I would appear to be to biased if I did that...” Consul Trip doesn't consider this statement as a reason to take any further action against Mr. BigFree: "I will not be personally doing anything to make him accountable."

Minister E_T admits sexual relationship with consul Master Zen
Apolyton, March 1st.
The War of Words between the Consuls and Mr. BigFree has been subject to a new turn of events. After spreading his message of an ultimatum against both the consuls and Mr. BigFree through the streets of Apolyton, Minister. E_T got into a talk with consul Master Zen. E_T, who has until now kept pretty silent in the War of Words, then went to bed. Soon after this he was , however, quoted in his bedroom: “MZ, let me help you with that zipper”.
The two members of the government know each other already for some time. According to consul Trip: “they know each other fairly well, both having been active members on the team for a relatively long time, and they've had more contact since MZ became a consul and E_T's direct superior”. He indicated but that their relationship was not only professional: “there's a lot of light chat in here though”.
Although a sexual relationship between two men in the government may mean little to some, it could point on an intertwist of interests. Master Zen was after all one of the first to show his support to minister E_T’s ultimatum. Is this the scandal Mr. BigFree, the criticiser of the consuls has waited for?
Consul Trip remained pretty calm now that this delicate affair has leaked out of the Consular palace, he even found it pretty funny. On the question if he knows if ET has also other relations with other members f the government, he answered with a small grin on his face: “none that I'm aware of, though I'm sure E_T would wish that otherwise.”
Although the consul is not entirely serious on the issue, analysts speak of a new crisis that could eventually break up the government. A sexual relationship is difficult for a politician to explain, a gay sexual relationship is even harder to explain. Further reactions of Minister E_T shall have to be awaited until there can be more clarity about what the impact of this admission shall be.

War of Words finally at end
Apolyton, March 2nd.
After weeks of heated discussion and sarcastic mud slinging, the War of Words seems to have finally reached its end. Although the yesterday published ultimatum of Minister E_T to the consuls and Mr. BigFree caused another heated emotional reaction from Mr. BigFree in the first hours after its publication, the tone of the debate has drastically decreased after it.
The main cause of this turn of events was the mediation by Mr. Vondrack, ex-consul of the Apolytonian republic. His advises to both consul Master Zen and Mr. BigFree have not only led to an apology from the side of Mr. BigFree to minister E_T for his insults, Mr. BigFree has even proposed to "bury the hatchet".
Mr. Conmcb25 appreciated this much and it is expected that many of the other people involved will do this too. Mr. WhereItsAt, a former consul, was more cautious with his comment, but he too noticed progress.
The final reaction was of minister E_T himself: "I have nothing against BF (or any member of this team) that I can't live with". "My belief is that you are a good person and that there is something that has been giving you troubles, thereby taking your frustrations (or whatever) out in your postings. I don't really think (although I could be wrong) that they are made with malace in mind."
Consul Master Zen has not yet reacted, nor has ay of the other consuls done so. An official reaction from the consulate has therefore still to be awaited.

Apolytonian-Ottoman strategical conference succesful
Operation Potemkin in progress
Århus, March 3rd.
The strategical conference, today at Århus, between consul Trip and Emperor Miccofl of the Ottoman Empire has been fruitful. The two leaders have exchanged military plans in an attempt to stop future Arabian aggression against the weakening Ottoman Empire.
Miccofl has informed consul Trip that they now have a saltpetre available to produce the first gunpowder for the newly invented muskets. This new technology will allow the Ottomans to deal out more damage to cavalry units and is therefore excellent for use against the Arabian Ansar Warriors.
The main problem is but still that until there are enough regiments of these musketeers, the Arabians still have a chance to conquer the northern region of the Ottoman Empire. There are still no good strategies to solve this problem other than to train old pikemen as soon as possible how to use muskets, in order to form a defensive force that is strong enough to defend these northern lands. All of our consuls agree that a loss of this land to the Arabians will mean the end of the Ottoman Empire, so that no power in the world will be able to stop the Arabians.
A problem that has been pointed out by our Minister of Interior E_T is an attack on the city with the saltpetre source in it. He has therefore thought out a strategy called the Operation Potemkin. In short this strategy is used for misleading the enemy by pretending something valuable is somewhere, while in reality is not there but at another place. When the enemy is strong enough he will attack the fake place, which can give the attacked more time to form an army to counter attack.
A negative aspect of the strategy is that when the fake city is placed in the poorly defended northern region of the Empire, it may speeden up the conquest of it. There is therefore also a risk to this strategy. Another issue is whether the time that the Ottomans win by building this city is enough to form a defensive force that is strong enough to counter the Arabian attack.
Emperor Miccofl was though pleased to learn of this tactic and is planning to use it, although the location of the fake city is not yet determined.

Worldwide publishment of Netatolian chronicle, bookshops sold out
Netatolian government leaks sensitive information
By our correspondent in Århus, Rodrigo Parrish.
Århus, March 5th.
"I'm sorry sir." was the short but clear answer of the bookseller when I visited it today to buy the today published Netatolian chronicle: 'Netatolia, a nation in profile' by Dauphin.
Bookshops wolrdwide have been flooded by people interested in the book that gives a complete outline of the Netatolian history throughout the many centuries that the empire exists, from the very beginning, 4463 years ago until the most recent confrontation between the Netatolians and the Arabian Empire. Today the largest publisher of Netatolia, Netatolian News Network, N.N.N., announced that its printers will be working day and night to supply all bookshops with enough books, still this will be far from sufficient to meet the enormous demand for this specific book.
Less pleasant for our nation as well as the Netatolian Empire itself is that the book contains two passages with sensitive information about the relations between Netatolia and other nations including Apolytonia. The author, Dauphin, states for instance that:
"Firstly, the Netatolians struck up an Entente Cordial with Apolytonia and Fanatikou. Hardly surprising that the Netatolians would choose to join an alliance of strong rather than of righteous. This alliance included scientific and technological co-operation. Secondly, war tends to focus the scientific and productive elements of a society at the expense of other things. Netatolia probably went bankrupt funding their war, but the result was a boon to development, at least in the short term.
And a little bit further he gives extremely sensitive information about the composition of the current army of the Netatolian Empire:
Got gunned down by the Musketmen that Netatolia started to produce to counter these so called wonder 'weapons'.
It is unclear how it is possible that such sensitive information has come into the hands of an author of a chronicle, but as a result, the information is now widespread and it is only a matter of time before it will come in the hands of the enemies of the Empire as well. The affair is made even stranger because the book is approved by the government itself. Prime Minister Miccofl himself was quoted saying "Now approved for release" while lifting the book triumphantly in the air at the official release this morning.
While in Netatolia nobody seems aware of the leaking of the sensitive information, in Apolytonia analysts, strategists and government officials just don't know how this could have happened. Mr. Aidun, ambassador for the nation with whom Netatolia is currently at war, Arabia, was gloomy about the Netatolian future. In a chat with Senator. WhereItsAt he was heard saying: "CGN is unbelievable. How naive can one be?". There is but no official response from the government yet.
It is therefore also still unclear if this scandal will influence current and future foreign policies towards the Netatolians. One could for instance question himself if it is still appropriate to give the enormous loan of 600 Apolytonian Drachmes to a nation that is so careless with it's nearly most secret information. What if this information becomes public too? The answer can only be given by the government itself.

Consul Trip: “Netatolians are overconfident”
Apolyton, March 5th.
While in the NotYouEitherstreet, Apolyton’s main street, the queue’s before the bookshops become longer and longer, The Observer was able to have an interview with Consul Trip for a reaction on the most recent event: the leaking of the sensitive information by the Netatolian government.
Mr. Trip, you know perhaps about the leak of information by the Netatolian government, what is your first comment on this affair?
I believe the Netatolians are overconfident and assume that this reckless behaviour will somehow affect the course of the war. In the end, this will hurt us all.
In what way will the behaviour of the Netatolians affect the course of the war?
It may or may not change how the Webringians react... it could either speed up their advance or slow it down... we will have to see.
Are you going to take action to prevent such behaviour from the Netatolians in the future?
I believe we need to quickly instruct these ametures on the art of diplomacy and prevent them from giving the Webringians yet another advantage
You mentioned that the behaviour of the Netatolians will "in the end ... hurt us all". In what way will it hurt us?
They're clearly giving away secrets which impact more than them. Our future relations with the Webringians may be permanently compromised because of this mishap.
Mr. Aidun, ambassador to the Arabians was quite gloomy about the future of the Netatolians, what is your view on the Netatolian future?
I agree, the Netatolians have made mistake after mistake, and ultimately they will be the ones held accountable.
Will this mistake from the side of the Netatolians influence our current or future foreign policy?
It may or it may not. Despite Netatolia's ineptitude, it is in our best interests to support them in order to undermine the great strength of the Webringians. If the Webringians are victorious, then Apolytonia will surely be the next target.
You mean that the government will continue support for the Netatolians, even if that is a loan of 600 Apolytonian Drachmes?
Yes, that is correct. Unless the Webringians meet with unforseen success against the Netatolians in the next few days
So you are going to postpone the loan unlike what Mr. Arrian advised: "We need to get that money to them asap”.
Yes, until we have a better grasp on the situation.
Do you have the book yourself too?
Yes, I have read it.

Minister Togas suddenly retreats from race
Apolyton, March 7th.
Minister Togas has suddenly withdrawn himself from the election for the consulship. The minister of Foreign Affairs had started his campaign a bit more than a week ago in an attempt to succeed consul Trip. Until today he has been travelling throughout the country to visit all the cities to acquire support and he has regularly been in debate with consul Trip, this opponent in this race. This whole campaign has all of a sudden also come to an end.
The reasons for the sudden retreat are several, according to his official public statement today.
One important reason are the other jobs in which the ex-candidate holds important positions in the executive sphere. Another reason is the recent reorganization on his department that he wants to coordinate until the finishing instead of leaving it behind leaderless.
Minister Togas has stated that he has thought long about this step and he even has had an appointment with his rival, consul Trip, and they have come to an understanding. The minister will operate more independently and almost without involvement of the consuls.
In an interview with minister Togas, he explained that during his campaign the reason why he wanted to become consul was taken away by developments in the top of the government itself: “Earlier, I was more concerned with voicing my complaints and stating my argument about why I would do a good job, but during my campaign a lot of work was done amongst the Consuls to change some of the problems that I had spoken about.” On the question if the consulate would really transfer responsibility to lower levels of the government he responded: “I truely hope that it is. I have spoken with all of the Consuls regarding this, not just Trip, and there is no argument at all about it. All of them very much want to get more participation from the team and I think that all we need are people to step up and accept that responsibility. The problem in the past has been the belief that no one wanted to help, so the Consuls have had to do all the work themselves.”
The minister does not think that his other offices in other jobs will keep him from performing his task of minister of Foreign Affairs, rather he will spend more time on all his jobs.

Hostile Minoan tribe defeated, sir Donegal victorious in battle
BigFurryCity, March 7th.
It was late in the afternoon, the sun was nearly down when a messenger brought a good message to the consular palace where consul Trip was just having a meeting with minister Togas to discuss the latest events in the republic. The messenger, who had rode as fast as he could from the mountains north of BigFurryCity to Apolyton was exhausted at his arrival, but was still able to report that sir Donegal and his knights had defeated the Minoan tribe that had become hostile towards the citizens in the northern part of the heartland of the country.
The battle has taken place in the early morning in a narrow valley north of BigFurryCity. This area, that has no roads and is barely accessible because of the many hills and mountains, is known for its rebellious tribes that have a primitive way of living. It happens but not very often in a century that the tribes actually go to war. This time the threat that the barbarians would make victims was too big and the government had send out sir Donegal with his knight regiment north. On this journey the regiment had been weakened by Minoan skirmishes. The knights, who were all veterans, started the attack from the foot of the mountain while the Minoan warriors awaited them at the other side of the valley. The actual clash took place in the midst of the valley.
Soon after the knights of sir Donegal started the attack, it seemed that they got the overhand and after about an hour the Minoan tribe surrendered. The tribe has paid a sum of twenty-five gold pieces in return for freedom. When the troops were inspected by sir Donegal, it appeared that he had not lost even one man. For this exceptional performance his regiment has therefore been promoted to elite.

Senate votes unanimously for loan
Apolyton, March 16th.
This morning minister of Foreign Affairs Togas has held a new poll among the members of the Senate whether the loan to the Netatolians should be given. The issue has been polled before and then the outcome was uninimously in favor of a loan of six hundred Apolytonian Drachmes for the Netatolian Empire.
The reason to hold a new voting on this issue is the recent capture of the Netatolian city of Agincourt by Webringian troops. Agincourt functioned like a gate to the rest of the Netatolian Empire. Its fall will mean an enlargement of the front in the northern Netatolian province which is rather bad for the Netatolians because a largher front is harder to keep with slow moving infantry against the mobile Arabian cavalry of the Webringians. The only hope for the Netatolians lies in their superior weapon technology: the mustket. To train enough regiments of musketmen, the Netatolians need but much money and the loan the the Netatolians is meant to help them to fund this training program.
In his speech to the members of the Senate he said that “Ultimately, we'll get SOMETHING back for our loan. We'll get some gold out of [the Netatolians] before they collapse, and we may be able to get their workers gifted to us as repayment. Frankly, I'd much rather have the workers than gold, myself. We'll also get their continued loyalty and show them support in a time when they desperately need it.” After which he paused and continued with: “And what is that worth? For starters, we keep them around, keep them fighting, and hope they slow down [the Webringians] as much as possible while we continue our rapid build up. We hurt [the Webringians] who has to fight Muskets instead of pikes. We also buy a long-term friend that we can gift a city to, gift techs to, and earn ourselves a free Industrial and Modern Ages tech.”
Consul Trip was more prudent in his speech. He warned that we will need the money as well as the Netatolians do it now. “With [the Webringian Empire] becoming a true superpower we'll need all that we have to resist their eventual invasion...” Therefore he proposed to give the Netatolians only a loan of three hundred Apolytonian Drachmes, which will enable them to train five regiments of musketteers instead of the ten when the loan would be twice as big.
The members of the Senate itself were but very much in favor of the loan for the various reasons. In their speeches they only encouraged the government to finalize this loan. The reasons for the loan varied from loyalty to the Netatolians to benefits that outweigh the costs, in terms of workers, technologies or an ally in the future organization of the United Nations.
The vote has not yet come to an end and the debate still contimues although many senators have left the debate to attend themselves to other tasks. Also the voting is not finished and senators will be able to vote during the next two day’s. Minister Togas has, however, urged to finalize the vote within fourty-eight hours.
