At the Delaware Poly meet, one item of discussion was the complete inadequacy of the censor as it stands. Let's face it, *'s are boring. We demand an upgrade!

Way back in the day, an old Myth board replaced censored words with "smurf." Soon, people starting typing smurf straight out ("smurf you!" "smurf!" etc.). A similar innocuous word could create fun here as well.

Another good option would be a Censored smiley to replace any such words. This has the disadvantage of not Cut & Pasting well into plain text, but it's still amusing. would be a good example.

IIRC, vBulletin uses a symbol or string to represent each character that is censored.

So something like "you stupid ****er" would translate into "you stupid smurf smurf smurf smurfer"

Which still is quite comedic.

I may be out of step, but how about no censor at all, but a few forbidden terms. Use them and you are banded. I see no need to sweat simple cuss words, but do not want to see a lot of childish swearing.

Even if the auto censor is not changed, can we please get the censord smily, so you can use it as stylistic mean or when you edit your post, because you find that your post was a little bit to drastic, or you can indicate that you did manually censored the passage:

:censored: instead of !*%$* or something like this.

The list of censored words is customised, so you could restrict the number of words that are censored. That's not where the issue lies. Its that Dan and Mark like to play it safe with the words that are permitted on this site due to various concerns (such a maintaining the 'family site' image)
