CTP of interest to a CTP2 fan? Enter the AD-FREE zone

I've been playing CTP2 since the first day it came out. Between civ, civ2, civ3, and cpt2, it's my favorite by far. And the only one that still holds my interest today.

Missing from my playlist is CTP. My question is, would I enjoy it?

I know that's only something I can answer for myself but I'd appreciate any thoughts from the community. Would it seem like a huge step back and too primative to enjoy? Would it be benificial to see the roots of CTP2? Is it one I simply should just have in my collection? Does it stand on its own and is a game I might return to once in a while? Or does CTP2 have it all and CTP probably wouldn't be worth my time?

Thanks in advance...

Inflate your Upload Space

I've got both - i got CTP first, but i cant see it being a problem for you to get it after CTP2.

CTP is a great game - and has a thriving PBEM community over in its forum.

For me i haven't played CTP in a while(CTP2 is only getting a bit of attention at the momment), but i value having both games, they are IMHO the best of the genre. Its probably cheap if you can find it too - so definatelty worth getting.

Plus you can play with all the weird space/future stuff(and an extra layer above the ground!), which some people were disapointed they had removed from CTP2

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I wasnt disappointed they removed the space layer anyway. I play CtP1 PBEM simply because CtP2 didnt have PBEM and doesnt work fully yet through modding.

The buildings are more important in CtP1, but the Ship of the Line is far too good. So i would say CtP1 is more fun in developing cities but CtP2 is more fun with making armies and attacking/defending.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I was going to say don't bother with CTP but after Maq's and Thor Jr.'s comments I'm thinking oh yea it was a cool game, so if you can find it give it a try.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

IMHO the biggest advantage of CTP over CTP2 is that PBEM works and there are people who play it, so you can (with much patience) play against many other humans easily and in a varietyof different formats of game. I also like the CTP interface more than the CTP2 one.
