Hello,
Some friends and I have been trying to get going an Internet TCP/IP based multiplayer SMAC/X game. However, some of use use PCs, and some Macintoshes. So far we haven't been able to make the two types of computer notice one another on the network.
Are the network protocols for the two versions even compatible? Is there anybody who has successfully run a mixed network? Help would be appreciated.

Well, the patch version numbers for PC/Mac don't really match up. But all are running the latest patch available. (1.5.2 for Mac, whatever the best is for Win, including XP compatibility patch).
Alternatively, we also have the beta version of 1.5.3 for Mac, which can run natively on OS X.

Can't be done. SMAC for Mac and SMAC for PC each use a proprietary, platform-specific network library (GameSprocket and DirectPlay respectively) and the libraries are incompatible.
