Too many cities:( Inflate your Upload Space

The main reasons I did not like Civ. 3 were the following:

1. In order to keep up woth the computer I had to build a galizion cities or keep going to war. What I liked in civ 2 was that I could build 5-6 cities on normal, small map, try not to go to war unless it was inevitable and go to war late at the game, where I would face a nice challenge. In civ3 the computer builds cities EVERYWHERE and with no logic. I hate having to use the same tactic. However, If I dont build cities constantly or go to war (which I hate) I get too much behind and loose. Any changes for the better in conquests OR any tools to limit that (i.e the co\pu building infinite cities??)??

2. Corruption: From what I read there are now specialists and city improvemnets that make the game better. Your experience?

I have PTW and did not like it. Should I buy conquests??? It is not a matter of cost, I just hate to get games and not play them.

Thanks

Apostolos

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Well, my now today, my 'honest' opinion!!

Wait a few more months until we 'modders' work out the kinks and deliver something worth your time...

This is just my opinion and the price will most likely drop to maybe as low as 10 or 11 bucks.

P.S. Gee Firaxis, if you do not like this, maybe you could 'do something' constructive some time soon.

If you did not like PTW, I doubt you will care for C3C.

dont agree. I bought Civ3, then PtW and I was not impressed. fed up with the game I didnt bother buying conquests, but one of my flatmates did, and he lent it to me one day and now I'm not giving it back
Yes its full of inconsistencies and annoying things, but these can be modded and customised to your personal liking. so buy it (or better yet, borrow it and buy it when the price has dropped ) and get the right mods and you're set for happy days
also, most of the annoying stuff is the Space Cadet AI. It is completely and totally nuts! ie It wont trade its only lux for 3 others (and all the cities in your gigantic civ + 5000 gold and all your techs). Its annoying cause there is NO sign of human intelligence there at all.

Not quite true there's a ton of other stuff as well. but I see past them these days on account of all the fun stuff. The new civ traits are also GREAT!

The funny thing about these two complaints coming from the same person is that the relatively high corruption in Civ3 actually makes it possible for you to compete with another civ, even if you are much smaller in size.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

With Civ 3 Conquests you can add the no-city and no-pass flag to any terrain that you want, so you can make maps with cities only in grassland, like the <AD>one that you can see at the bottom of my post </AD>

Tired of ads?

Yes, I found Civ3 much more tolerable when I made it impossible to build cities in jungle and desert... that in turn made colonies actually useful.

The desert restriction lessens the effect of the agricultural trait, but cities can still be founded on flood plains...

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I went so far as to try banning cities from everything except Plains, Grassland, and Flood Plains and delayed clearing wetlands until Enginnering.

But I've found that on many maps, that results in too few city spots able to be founded until Enginerring, and then it's going to be a lot of work preclearing those sites.

I don't mind lessening the agricultural traight, productive cities can also be founded on tiles on the edge of the desert with this traight.
