We must make sure that our exploring units don't get into each other's way. Maybe Anthea should turn N again after a few turns.

understood. after the next turn, i'll see what i can work out. i'm thinking of sending Grog north though, not Anthea. and i have been asked to keep Anthea close, in case we need him for some reason.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

The save is here. I'm still at work.

I plan to play the save tonight @9pm EST, if one of the other Consuls don't get to it first.

That assumes, of course, that no issues pop up in the save that requires mention or reconsideration of the posted orders.

Save attached. Realistically, I figure your number cruncher folk will figure out what happened that caught us off-guard yesterday within 5-10 turns or so, but we'd appreciate it if you don't mention it around....

Turn Results from 3350bc

Played in chat using posted orders at 2:00am GMT with Kloreep, Rhoth, E_T, and BigFree in chat.

We complete Pottery. Begin research on Writing. Set Research to 90%, tax to 10%

Roads R Us begins a ROAD.

Roadkill Warriors move NW (7)

Grog moves East (6)

Anthea the Blonde moves East (6)

In APOLYTON, the barracks was changed to a granary.

Save sent onto BAT and Admin

ISSUES OF NOTE

PAL is still size 3. We and BAT are both at size 2, however, we now have the 3rd largest population in the world. CDG and GWT are both at size 1.

No other changes to demographics.

Writing in 40 turns (will change with growth and expansion) ... this result and taxes are the same if we are at 80 or 90% research.

That "lake" to our north is salt water. Only produces one food.

Now what are the possibilities here that would make F-p stop the game for over 24 hours? That AINT like F-P at ALL!

I was thinking:

1. Met another Civ
2. Disease got them
3. Popped a hut for something, tech, money, settler, city, etc.

But what would our number crinchers pick up after 5 to 10 turns?

My guess is they got a settler and after 5 to 10 turn it will be moved back close enough to the core to settle the second city.

We can watch for that big pop change without a drop in the capitol pop to see if I am right or not.

Can anyone think of any other likely possibilities?

They definately got a settler. Or, at least that's what he is implying.

How can a settler catch you "off-guard" really?

He has made some kind of mistake.

Would we be able to tell in 10 turns that they have found a settler? Their new city would not enter the Top-5, I guess.

OR ... he's just trying to confuse us.

Simple: the scores. Score is based on population and territory. If they founded a city with a settler they got from a hut, then their score would take a jump.

Alternatively, their border expansion popped a hut full of barbs, which would mess up their growth curve (especially if they ate the worker or killed citizens). Probably more outlandish, though.

Because the ladder in all probability does not play the game like us. I got a feeling its mostly F-P, with occassional input from his team mates.

They popped a hut and had to stop because it was outside of the ordinary turn playing, and had to get input from the team.

These are a bunch of MP online guys. F-P mentioned somewhere before that he had not played a PBEM before. So they aren't used to this type of game.

By the way BFM are you going to run the intell branch for us? We really need someone.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Run it? No. Contribute? Yes.

If they found an extra city now, when will that reflect in the scores?

Very quickly. Adding 1 pop and 9 (or so) tiles adds more to the score than just adding 1 pop.

My guess is as I stated above, is that PAL popped a settler from a goodie hut some distance from there core, and it will take 5 to 10 turns to get it back and build a city with it.

Hence the delay.

Thats my guess anyway.

Hum, in my own games, I love poping settlers far from home, especally if it's in an area where it in bottle neck the AI and secure me artificatly high terraign.

If they are sending it back home, they must be afraid of a neighboring civ declaring war over it.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Often, in the long run, it is more efficient to send it home and hae it be your 2nd or 3rd core city than to let it stay out in the fronteer and develop. Of course, there are military reasons why you might want to leave it out in nowhere, but from a standpoint of city development, you want it to go home and be corruption free to cause you to build up your infrastructure fast.
