Civ Demographic Question Inflate your Upload Space

Hi administrators!

I have a question. Civ series are sold in millions of copies. Many people are connected on the internet. So how is it possible that this site has only some 6000 registered members and similar with sidgames. All in all (some overlap I think) there are no more than 10000 registered civ posters on the entire internet.

What did I got wrong? Is there another site? Are there massively visited newsgroups or mailinglists?

Where are all these people?

( little note to webmaster: It may help if you put "sex" and some other keywords in some meta tags )

But seriously...any oppinions? Why are civers so asocial ?

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

somes facts

1) civ2 has sold a total of 2.5mil copies according to microprose press releases. that is probably for the whole series during the last 4 years

2) smac and ctp sold around 0,5 mil each

3) apolyton is being visited by over 40,000 unique people each month. adding up the number for each month(which of course can be the same people) from october 1999 to april 2000(a period of 7 months) we got about 0,25mil unique visits(if we talk about pageviews, it's a couple milions)

since not all people who bought a civ game in the last year are
a) playing it still
b) have internet access
c) are interested in checking a fan site for something extra
I think we're at decent levels

ps. dont look at the sidgames numbers(no offence meant). it envolves more games, a couple thousands logins were from the old owo(firaxis) forums and the system that forces you to register in order view a thread is definately increasing the number of people who register.

Hmm... There's an ad on about every page and you get paid per view of the ads... Let's do some maths : Say you get $0,001 per ad view(I think it's reasonable). $0,001 times 2.000.000 makes $2000 per year. Gamestats, I think, takes a lot away from that. So, MarkG and DanQ get about $1 from administrating Apolyton, once in 7 months .

Out of idle curiosity, Markos, do you have a handle on how many unique people visit the Forum each month?

Thanks for interesting numbers.

I think there is still potential to grow. India and China are getting on-line, and those folk never looked very real-time action to me. In fact, from what I know about chinese philosophy, we can expect a boom of new civers from the east any time now. ( I cant wait to see someone in the forums who spells as bad as me )

Very interesting...

When exactly did the forums first start off? Amazing that everyone who registered in 98 posted at least till 1999.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Very interesting.

((That last statment sounds repetative, dosen't it... ))

You ought to keep a monthly or bi-monthly thread which keeps track of things like this. Or, alternitavly, you could create a plae where this info is listed on the web page. Some of the info is avaliable to all of us mear mortals (like how many current logons), but others (like how many handles used in each month) are not. Just an idea...
