And the other one of us needs to take an economics course.

Mixed Economy: Some government intervention and some free-market aspects. There are Rules.

Capitalism (whenever I say this you can bet you're butt I mean lasseiz faire): There are no regulations. No rules. Please the customers and make the money. There are by defenition no rules to follow or end up opressed by the government because a lasseize faire government doesn't have anything to do with rule making or rule enforcing.

What if there is a rich guy who hires thugs to do whatever he pleases? Is that laissez fair, as well?

If you consider him a government I suppose it wouldn't be.

Interesting idea Azazel... interesting.

I suppose you could stage a boycott of his goods for attempting to use such techniques (noone can make you buy it).

Or we could just draw the government into the matter because we're too lazy and apathetic to stand up for what we believe in.

Well then you should confess that you've made a mistake.

EDIT: And also as my witty retort...

As the non-Socialist I would say I was the one best in touch with reality as well.

Actually there's more hope for Skilord than the other conservatives with a more realistic view of capitalism.

Put an end to popups!

I take from your posts that you percieve me as somewhat of an idealist. I am morally bound to dispell this particular fantasy.

I do not find mankind to be a trustworthy, good or even worthwhile group of individuals. In this sense I want them to have as little to do with me as possible. Government is one of the main venues for their control or influence of my life and therefore I wish to minimize this effect. This works for me... but there are other people out there. These people cannot be trusted to live their lives morally (by not stealing, driving safe, giving to charity) and therefore require government. However they will inheritly be part of any just (popular) government and therefore that government cannot be trusted.

I pick the one that lets me be free from the whims of the narcisstic megalomaniac that is my fellow man. I can only hope to be able to cure him through non-forceful means because as.... 6000 years of government has proved he won't be convinced through forceful means. I have no option but capitalism just because I am cynical of my fellow man, I don't see this as ideal, I see this as having the potential to be better than anything I could have thought of.

----

EDIT: In addition I question your use of the word conservative. I am not a conservative, I do not want things to stay the same. I do, however, differ from Liberals in that I want things to change for the better.

Well you shouldn't be judged more harshly than the conservatives who are better bullshitters, but don't expect to find many people to debate with you.

Bah, I'd rather be right than be debated.

I'll just take the refusals to debate me as pre-emptive declarations of surrender. (They may or may not be such, probly aren't).

And I'm quite proud to be a poor liar, there's not much need for that when you're right.

Got spare money?

When all else fails resort to megalomania.

I'll always pick the option that panders more to my ego.
