The Iron Issue Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Sorry to say this, but: We need the Great Lighthouse

The best city to build this is Coventry (edit: or possibly Burundy, if we have a severe problem). We can then trade for more lux and the iron, alot earlier than we could if we wait for astronomy . we need LL on our side if this is to work, though, since they can block the trade route if the declare war on us.

If we do get it, then we could build MI and Knights, and wipe out Python while they have only spearmen. We would have the whole island.

I know that you have thought of this, but I need your help to over come any problems. We could still aim for Gunpowder, but if we have a go at Python it would be best not to, since that would slow down research.

What do you think about it?

Personally? I doubt the other teams would help us become that powerful. I've seen it before: once a primary threat is identified, people will ally and try to mitigate that threat.

LL is currently that threat. Unfortunately, as you noted, it is they that have the ability to block a sea trade route to us.

I was hoping to avoid fighting Python until the end. In addition, it's going to take a long time for us just to settle the land we have (and execute a palace jump) and develop our cities. We are also lagging in tech. I don't see that more warfare is the answer, at least not yet.

The next war I want to fight, actually, would be to go get our own iron source.

To recap: I agree the Lighthouse would be good for us, although keep in mind it will trigger our GA. If one of the others builds it, we would have less control over the trading, but it will still be possible.

If we do build the Lighthouse, I'd say Coventry is the place to do it. Burundy has been set up as a settler pump, and we need it.

A last, quick thought: We have a cr*p UU, and would need to import iron (or not if we do as you wish )
Hence it might be easier to build a wonder. I hope, though, that we get saltpeter, and Python don't. Longbows v. spearmen To tempting to resist in my mind.
when cort gets back, and MS has a look, we could get the other 50% of the opinion

I've no appetite for backstabbing Python. We sort-of backstabbed Monkey (in a small way) and we need allies for the road ahead.

In that context, IMV we don't need Iron till RR, and might get a source back over here before then. If we have Salpeter we can defend ourselves and skip Iron units, or trade for Iron after Astro. The other continent is so goddam huge that no-one needs our land, or would dare expose themselves by atatcking us from there - unless we had the whole continent to ourselves which would invite a pre-emptive dogpile on us.

Tired of ads?

OK then, scrap the backstab. I think that we need to kill monkey quickly, and since they have mercs it is going to be very hard to do that with horsemen.

Ah, Krill joins us, and all our PP playstile goes downhill .

I believe that our first priority should be to settle the rest of the land and get a VERY strong economy going. For this, we don't need Iron right now.
I would leave the weaping out of Phython for later, and build a strong defensive force around knights and musketeers. Of course, if we don't have Saltpeter and Python has it, then we're dead.
I agree in building the GLighthouse, it could give us a strong advantage in having first contacts (remember my idea of sending out a couple of suicide galleys a while ago?). At the worst, we could switch to the HG if we miss the GL.
As for the GA, let's switch to republic before and use it to build all the libraries, marketplaces etc. we need.

Oh, can you post a world map on the 'map' thread? thanks

That is what I thought, but I do not want to take Monkey out without Iron. Takes too long, lose to many shields. It would be fun to have Med inf. V. spearmen

Sorry, I have too much coursework to do at the moment. I might be able to get one up in about 2 hours.

Ps. I thought the best time to blow the GA was early middle ages, or in my mind, after (or because of) building HOOVER. Massive production boost. This is, unfortunately, impossible in this game.
