on spamming Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

If our illustrious consuls really cared about filling the top page with useless turn threads, they would be all over the MoI for posting replies in three count'em 3 stale previously played turnthreads within a 24 hr period.

turn 164 played 14 mar stale for 10 days then on 24 mar...

turn 163 played 6 mar meaningful comments thru 8 mar stale for 16 days then on 24 mar...

turn 162 played 3 mar stale for 20 days then on 23 mar...

But obviouosly they don't.

Now I don't have anything against E_T or anybody else for that matter posting anything relavant to the game.

But I was chastized in public for starting 4 turnthreads when the turnthread index was down to the next plus 1 future turn.

And posting to obviously stale past turnthreads by the elite goes unanswered.

Hey, don't forget that I had defended you in that "spamming" thread

Now, I think that they had come down on you much too hard, especially in public. As they didn't have any other real support over the whole thing, I was willing to let it drop....

As for the Consuls not saying anything about the posts I had made in those threads, they are kind of busy right now:

Arnelos is out of town at a Family member's Funeral
MasterZen is busy finalizing his Thesus
quote:
I've been mad busy with my thesis. I have to finish the econometrics by friday and finish the whole d*mn thing by monday

and
Trip lost his DSL and is using "Unusual" methods to get his Internet at home *cough* Pirating airtime *cough*

The Banana only knows what Kloreep thinks, but I figure that he didn't mind the previous "spamming" episode.

So, I posted things in those threads about a new Item that I would like the Consuls to start reporting about. I could have edited those reports, but then no one would have likely seen that Information.

It would be nice, if someone uses this new bit of empire tracking to make a graphic chart from it, so that we can all see how things have been progressing for us over time. I would Ultimately like to see how these things have tracked over the time frame from just before the war to now. I think it would be very interesting to see.

quote:

E_T[working_on_sim]> I went back and looked at our Sci & Cash Power on turn 152, which was before the FP was built and here was those results that I have edited into that report
E_T[working_on_sim]> [EDIT by E_T]
E_T[working_on_sim]> Cash power = 173 GPT
E_T[working_on_sim]> Sci power = 148 BPT
E_T[working_on_sim]> [/edit]
E_T[working_on_sim]> then, 10 turns later, after the FP on turn 162 (4 turns ago)
E_T[working_on_sim]> Because I have this save open, I'm getting this Info out really quick.
E_T[working_on_sim]> Cash Power = 209 GPT
E_T[working_on_sim]> Sci Power = 215 BPT
E_T[working_on_sim]> EOT BPT towards Education = 117 Beakers
E_T[working_on_sim]> MoI E_T
E_T[working_on_sim]> quite a difference 10 turns and an FP can make in those figures
MasterZen> yep, a lot
MasterZen> and once we palace jump....
E_T[working_on_sim]> Trip is always concerned with the GPT that we make at 100% tax, but that is also dependant of several factors, whereas, figuring it this way shows our actual Power to generate cash for the nation, after Maintainance/Corruption/Unit costs
E_T[working_on_sim]> and if you notice, during that timeframe, we built more Libs, which increased our Sci power in comparison to our Cash power
E_T[working_on_sim]> after a while, either if I have time or we get an industrious member to gather all of the info, I would like to see what these numbers have done from the time right before the war to now and even graph that info
MasterZen> now that would take a very industrious member...
E_T[working_on_sim]> it would make a great little thing to post (the graph) ever 5 to 10 turns as a occasional economic status report
E_T[working_on_sim]> ever = every
MasterZen> I lost all my old saves with the disk format
* E_T[working_on_sim] has saves back from ages ago, when he was getting them...
E_T[working_on_sim]> I would imagine that these values have been relatively flat up to the start of the Super-Rex and other build programs, then jumping around when settlers are built and new cities founded, increasing as markets/libs are built and jumped up some with the FP and will jump more with the Palace move
E_T[working_on_sim]> and from pretty much from now up to the GA, we should see a steady increase as our cities grow and new items come online

Roadcage,

I think it's unfair to us that you assume that it was a "consular" decision to whine about so many turnthreads. I do not like to point fingers at anyone here, but the fact is that thread was started by Arnelos, and whatever his opinions were towards the issue, those were not necessarily shared by the other two consuls. I can tell you for a fact that it was not consulted with either Trip or myself before being posted.

So, to be honest, I think this is really a petty issue and not something worth getting angry about, I am quite glad that someone actually bothers to post the turnthreads.

Full PM-box? Change here!

roadcage,

I apologize if the thread I started seemed exlusively aimed at you and further apologize for the fact that I really should have just kept my cool.

The reality is that the "spamming threads" issue has been one of many bones fought over between Trip and E_T. E_T keeps posting in tons of turnthreads putting them all on the front page and Trip keeps complaining about it. I thought that issue had finally been settled between Trip and E_T when I saw a bunch of new threads AGAIN on the front page and knew it would likely just spur another argument. Being rather frustrated with that seemingly endless argument pounced on this itterance without really taking note that it was YOU, who not only wouldn't likely know that what I was really getting at was an element of the Trip-E_T feud I'm growing tired of, but that you'd be rather offended at being fingered for something you'd have no idea could possibly annoy anyone.

My apologies.

As for the latest... E_T, can we please come to and stick with some form of agreement on this? I'm really just tired of seeing you and Trip argue about it, to tell the truth. I happen to be siding with Trip on the issue because I think he's right about all the extra threads just cluttering the front page, as I argued myself in the PUBLIC discussion I tried to start on the subject.

Again, my apologies to roadcage for the other thread. I got frustrated and lost my cool. You certainly didn't deserve to feel under attack for merely trying to help.

EDIT: typo

Suffering from ads?

To the contrary, he and anyone else who wants to get involved should be encouraged.

There have been too many topped threads, and there continue to be too many topped threads. I tried to do something about it late in my tenure, but ran out of steam.

When the citizens have to restrain themselves, there is alltogether too much officialdom going on.

Put an end to popups!

All we need topped, is the Correspondence Thread, and the Info Centre.

All of the Ministry & Turn Threads can be linked to within the Info Centre.

Got spare money?

Again...agreed with Hot_Enamel. Only the thread that is used all the time and a thread that links to others ought to be topped. Threads like the ministry of war (when there has been no war for many turns) and the Turn Report thread that hasn't been updated since November (and it probably doesn't need to be anymore since all the turn reports are in each turn thread now) should be de-topped.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Not a bad idea. I'll look at doing that hopefully tomorrow. There are probably threads that can be merged or links provided in one and another simply de-topped.

Easy solution:

put links to the official threads in the InfoCenter threads since they are not being used. Hell, use the InfoCenter as "link central" and that way we can avoid to have so many topped threads.

Area X in particular is well unused - almost a month running now. Also, I am sure I proposed (or maybe just supported) linking all the MoI, SMC, FAM etc threads into one government department thread that is topped. The Communications threads would be, as the Embassy threads, within the FAM section of that. Whenever a new post is made in them they would float to the top anyway.
