Insuring our Survival Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I have just read through the rules at the UN and did not notice anything regarding this issue.

If for some strange and unforseen reason our team gets its self into a position where our demise appears inevitable, would any of you consider the possiblility of a Navel disembarkment?

Once we get Map Making, we build a single Galley that we leave in port loaded with a settler. If our cities start to fall, we launch our galley with its settler and our civ survives to fight another day.

I do not propose we stay afloat (as that would be dangerous with Barbs on emperor) but just keep the galley/settler combo sitting around "just in case".

Maybe this should even be an issue we put forth to the UN to get a rulling on (but i think we decided to let Elucidious to finish off the rules).

Just wondering what people would be thinking of this idea.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Personally, and please take no offence. But I hate it.

If we are bad enough to get ourselves into that position, then we deserve to play on the loosers second round and not on the winners.

Just my 2 cents.

It should probably be put forth as an issue at the UN though...simply to avoid having other teams do that. One team could have a galley with a settler out there sailing around just in case and then the game would keep going far longer than it really should have.

I could certainly see a certain...umm...other team using a tactic like that, though they aren't in our game bracket.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Since this is elimination, I'd say no as a point of sportsmanship unless we thought we could actually rebuild a new civilization; but by the time we'd get in to such a position, I don't think there'd be the place or the time to do so. So, for poly, no.

Whether it should be allowed is a tough one. I suppose not. But there are some shades of grey here... what if, say, CDG settles a one tile island during peacetime, then is wiped out from their continent? Should they be allowed to stay in the game? No one could budge them from that island.

No offense taken. I'm not even sure I'd do it myself. I just want to make sure that all possible strategies are explored. I was sitting here making up City placement maps and thinking up arguements for and against site locations when I thought of this (and I am sure I am not the first person who thought of it).

Here is an excerpt from the rules that I think pertains to this:
quote:
4.2 Unknown exploits

4.2.1 - New Bugs/Exploits

The teams agree to abide by the rulings of the game staff should a new, previously unknown bug/exploit appear in the game.

4.2.2 - Exemption

Issues known by several people/teams in the ISDG are exempt from this rule. Ignorance of a known game feature by one team should not lead to discussion in the middle of the game of whether this is an exploit.

In essence, this says that any existing known issues can not be re-assessed once the game has begun. Only new bugs/exploits will be considered.

4.2.3 Disclosure of new bugs/exploits

Every team has to control its own actions and to look for bugs or game mechanics which could be defined as a bug or exploit. When a team finds such an mechanism (which is not known by other teams), they have to announce this mechanism directly in the public forums at the U.N.

The game staff will be responsible for facilitating a discussion (in either the public or private U.N. forums) and a vote on the issue (by the team captains).

The clock will be stopped whilst this is taking place.

Should we look into adding a rule so that the one square island strat becomes void.

Say

"If a civ is clearly defeted, and all other remaining civs in the UN (on both games) unanimously vote in concurrence of such, that team will disband all cities, units, etc. and exit the game."

This is intended to prevent the items we are discussing here and it should be clear to the UN that that is all we are in favor of. If one team is clearly knocked out, and another is down to a one island city, we do not want to have to wait until we research marines to kill them. saves a lot of time.

Two things...

For one, I would not support such a cowardly tactic to uselessly prolong our defeat. In the (hopefully) unlikely event we find ourselves at the edge of defeat, we should only go out honorably. I believe this site has a reputation for being very honorable, and as such I believe that we should go down honorably, fighting tooth and nail to the bitter end, not running away like cowards.

Second, I really, really, don't want to see yet another rule added to that damn bloated ruleset sitting in the U.N. forum. If a team choses to use these tactics, it should be their legitimate choice. The only consequence such choice should have is the shame that such a choice takes with it.

Suffering from ads?

What was the ruling about a team gifting a well protected city to a dieing civ.

Basically helping it into the next round....and making a useful alliane partner ?

This is pretty much the same thing.

If anything, gifting a city would be far worse than a settler in a galley, which would eventually be hunted down.

An island civ simply needs to be outlawed.

Simple rule:
If the civ has no remaining cities, then they are toast. Settlers don't count as a civ.

The only other exploit I see as possible in this vein:
1 tile islands or small islands that can be blockaded pre-amphib. assault.

there should be a rule about this. small islands that can be blockaded in such a fashion will be untakable until marines, which we won't get to.

go do your UN thing people~!

Yes, I agree that this should not be allowed. I think the Mods would not allow it as well. If there's a rule made up for this it should just be a general rule with the authority to make judgments and decisions in each circumstance to be left with the Mods.
