Naming geography Enter the AD-FREE zone

I would like to start naming the geographical features of the land we are on. I plan on making a map in the future and think it would be cool to have placenames for certain features. It will also help in the future to describe troop movements.

There are already quite a few features to be named. Instead of voting for each one I suggest that each citizen be allowed to name a feature.

To start things off I am naming the mountain North of Apolyton: Mount Olympus

Can't post the map for some reason. check out
this thread for some pics of our civ so far

SirO - great idea. May I suggest we keep with the Greek theme.

Maybe we could name every thing after - say - maybe the second letter of the Greek alphabet.

Seriously though - the Greek theme works well. Lots of possibilities.

Put an end to popups!

I suggest naming the river Apolyton's on the "River Potamon." The second o would be long. (In case you're wondering, it means "river of rivers." )

I perfer to name it after the most well known greek river: The River Styx

Here is a link to a brief story about the origins of the River Styx.

This is the text of the link:

quote:
The Oath River
The river daughter of Okeanos and Tethys, Styx was the eldest of Okeanos’ three thousand children (Theogony, 364).

When Zeus was at war with the other Titans, he promised that any god who fought on his side would retain their power and position, and those without power or position under Kronos, would be rewarded justly (ibid., 390). Styx, with her children, were the first to stand with Zeus. She later became known as The Oath River.

Loathed by the immortals, Styx makes her home in the underworld. When a dispute erupts on Olympos, Zeus will send wind-footed Iris to Styx for a pitcher of water. Any immortal who pours the waters of Styx, and swears an oath, is solemnly bound to tell only the truth. The punishment for breaking such an oath is one year without ambrosia, nectar or AIR! If that’s not enough, for nine additional years, the oath-breaker is not allowed to attend the festivals or share the company of the other immortals (ibid., 793).

Styx is a good idea.

Why don't we call that mountain at Apolyton88 Mt. Olympus?

I concur.

Let's keep the Greek theme. It can be fun and there are endless possibilities.

So it shall be named.

Naming features is first come, first served. Get 'em while they're hot.

I'd rather not get into discussions on what to name what. Name it first and it's done.

Since our empire is going to be the largest and most powerful there should be plenty of things to name.

I don't like the idea of having any official names...when we have a more comprehensive map, I'll give RW geographic names to places. I agree on Mount Olympus, though! (but I don't especially like the names for the river)

According to our constution, the MoI has authority to name geographic features as he sees fit. He doesn't need a poll or anything. However, if people care, I don't think that it would be in his best interest to ignore the will of the people who care.

Suffering from ads?

As far as the deputy MOI is concerned it should be the people's decision what to name our lands. We can poll things if we so desire.
