	{The List} Let's Get to Work! Remove this text

Okay, I think it is long past time that new life needed to be fused into this project since Asmodean's untimely passing from the forum.
(I sincerely hope that no ill-effects have befallen him)

First, we are going to need to revisit the category managers and perhaps do a roll-call here on who was managing what category then and who is managing it now.

Second, we need to set a deadline for the List submission. I am open to dates and will start a thread on that issue.

Third, we need to revitalize interest in this project with a news item once the first two data points are accomplished and perhaps get a section opened on Apolyton for Civ IV and publicity about civ IV so that we can have a vehicle for us to express our ideas and news about our community.

Fourth, we will need to email Firaxis the List at some point in the future and attract their attention.

We will also require strong, talented, and relatively un-busy people to take charge of this massive project with NEWS editors and with PROJECT coordinators in addition to the listmasters and the The List Coordinator.

In addition, contribuitors should help the listmasters by providing links en thread of the {The List} threads to relevant threads covering the same topic idea.

If we all do this and we all work together, we should be able to compile a realtively amazing List for Civ IV.

I think that an important thing to do is abandon the idea of lots and lots of List "Managers." Really, these people simply signed up on the "official" post and started the thread, most of the time never updating the original post as they were asked.

I think that one or two dedicated people should start all of the "final" threads, and then be completely responsible for updating them. If volunteers would like to submit updates of what the initial post should be (or even do all of the work) then that's fine.. but too many people means too many threads not getting tended.

In this case, I'd rather have all of our eggs in one basket, so to speak.

The intial posts of all of these new threads could list all of the topic's ideas with substantial support.(either from masses of people who want something "just because" or one or two who have provided thoughtful arguments)

Essentially, I'm suggesting the merging of "List Coordinator" and "Thread Managers." Everyone except the one person should be fired.


I nominate DarkCloud (naturally) to start these lists. He has been around since the beginning and seems to be the most dedicated to doing things in a single, cohesive way.

Hmm... well, while I understand the sentiment here- the whole list managing thing is a lot of work... the List needs people to put their ideas all in one thread and if someoen is willing to compile things, then that's great! If they miss their deadlines, then the List Coordinator can step in and take over. That seems more fair and inclusive If maybe less efficient!

At least it gives people chances!

The only real updates that need to be done are the ones at the end, when the threads are compiled and everything is finished... I think.

Thank you, I appreciate that.
However, I still think that for now, we should let the status quo drag on for a bit... at least until we see who's around and who needs to be replaced as thread managers.
As for List Coordinating, I would be honored to take up such a mantle, but I'm really not certain how much time I would have to dedicate to such a task. If I were to do such a thing, I would need at least one honorable and charismatic deputy and possibly two, because frankly, I'm busier now than I've ever been.

I mostly started this thread and got things moving because I wanted something to happen and didn't want this to die because the Civ IV list has been a dream of mine since I registered on this site too late to contribute to the civ III list

I really really want to be List Coordinator, but I'll have to juggle some things and reduce my workload both here and in real life to do as good a job as I intend to do, should I be needed as such a Coordinator.

However, if people here wants me to help out, I'll see what I can do!

I have had no possibiliy to maintain my threads the last months, because as some of you might know, I can't access Poly on my home computer and have very little chance other places. Therefore it might be wise to let someone else do my threads as for now at least. I am very sorry for this, but it's not my fault. I can't come here often and long enough... I will be available when just that silly ISP can get moving...!

still mastering the culture and multiplayer threads..

are we into the last stasge of the lists now andf want to finaise them, or are we still taking on board ideas.

i feel no point in finalising any lsits and setting some form of priority for them till firaxis are ready to start on the game....

Hmm... I would be tempted to say that we must be in the final stages... but I also think that we should hold off on the finalizing until Firaxis seems to be near a stage where they might accept the lists- however, there is a danger in waiting too long, Rasputin... because if Firaxis gets off to a head start and is already halfway through with civ before we get our list to them, then they are less likely to utilize our ideas!

Well, I'll gladly do the work- but it doesn't seem that too much of a majority really want to get things organized- if someone wants to be deputized or to assist with a good deal of the working, then please step forward and posit your solutions!

Personally, I suppose I'll start work by doing my own job (summarizing my own threads) as soon as possible... and maybe others can use them as a template (although most of the preexisting list-managed threads already use my design as a template currently... but as an unfinished template)

Okay, well, right now the majority of the extra work will be

1.) picking up the slack and hunting down ideas that weren't posted in the correct threads and sending them to the correct {The List} threads.

and

2.) taking over {the list} threads of defunct list-people (Asmodean, etc)

Could you edit in some links in the first post to the list template you would like us to use. Standardising the lists will help those making the list, and obviously be of benefit to Firaxis if they read our list.
