Wheel, cheaper tech, gets us horses and the faster speed land units. With this relatively flat terrain, having that speed is essential.

Reason why this poll was started:

CDG is researching Writing.

Even if we decide to attack them we may want to change to a more militeristic tech, or we may want to sue for peace later and aquire writing from them. Seems pointless to continue on towards writing when we know they'll beat us to it.

And if we opt for peace, well, we definately need to pick a new tech.

The new tech I'd pick would be Iron Working

As I do not think we will be able to totally eliminate CDG even with the Two Warrior Stack, I voted to switch to Iron Working.

We will be able to cripple CDG with our two warriors no matter what. We then sue for peace + writting. At this point, we will be so far ahead of them that we will be able to out Rex, out research and out produce them. We kill them off at our leisure.

With CDG gone, half the game is over and it will be virtually impossible to prevent us from making it to the finals.

I thought about this for a while before voting and finally decided to vote for switch. However...something Uber mentioned about the potential tech deal also caught my eye. Right now we have NO techs that allow us to prebuild the Statue of Zeus. If we go for iron working now and then into the tech deal it will be quite a while before we even get a tech that allows us to pre-build a wonder. This is of course assuming that we do not find anyone else on our continent to trade with.

To counteract that my suggestion would be to head for masonry. There is the potential we could trade for it if we find another civ, but what happens if we can't? I fully realize the need for iron working for finding out where the resources are, and if we're going to warmonger we'll need it for swords, but if we do plan on stealing a march toward the Statue of Zeus we need to start thinking about masonry and mathematics options too.

The no pre-build is an issue. What we need to do is determine how long it will take to build Zeus. I think we can go IW, Masonry, Philosophy. We need CDG to go CoL since we will not be able to give it to them if they go Philo. since they will need to be done with CoL before we finish Philo. Then we'll get the Republic free. After that we can go Math and get Zeus.

How many turns will these techs take to get? It might be better to go Masonry then IW depending on how long the techs will take.

I'm also concerned that we need cities for military production as well. Especially if there is another civ near us. How soon before that Granary is done and a settler popped?

If we go after CDG, don't switch. But instead slow down reserch till we know what is happening.

If we cooperate with CDG switch to IW so we can kill them after we complete the tech deals.
