Is there no buton or icon for it? No drop down menu? Does that seem old for such a helpful option? Why no listing of the hotkeys in the manual or anywhere else?
(Or am I just exposing my ignorance on this issue further?)

Yes, I hear you. Some things have been changed for no apparent reason - like dumping Radio and other associated tech tree changes, which has apparently caused screw-ups in the graphics files. Although thse changes don't really bother me one way or the other, the associated bugs do. Furthermore, I haven't seen any explanation of why such changes were made (other than change for changes' sake), which I think would be rather nice to know.
And of course, plenty of people have gone to lengths to point out the bugs that Firaxis did not address, some even by their own admission. So I won't go into that.
Overall, it's nice to have them working on the product and serving the community with patches periodically, but a bit of a hollow victory when the result isn't up to scratch, as seems to be the case from the early comments I've seen so far (though I haven't personally installed the 1.20 patch yet).

vmxa1, do you keep all of the buttons on, the advanced unit actions, etc. They do clutter up the bottom of the screen.

I think it is easier (for some reason) to use the keyboard in the beginning, but when you finish rexing, there are to many lists to deal with, so you have to use the mouse.
Maybe that could be a new feature for civ4...

If I could move without the mouse on my laptop, then I'd only use my mouse for diplomacy and advisor screens.
