Disease? Tired of ads?

Sorry I could not find the thread that had the discussion about disease. It was mentioned that Sanitation was the tech that cured that. I have found that is not the exact case. It cures or prevents disease from flood plains, but not jungle. I had disease after learning that tech.

So I still do not know if I had a hospital if that would do it. I did not builod any in that game. I did cut all the jungle and that stopped it.

It's ok, look in the civilopedia or the editor and you'll find that only floodplain diseases are stopped. But for that time, I think there no more jungle around you.. because you already cleaned it up.

Another question : Marsh also have this disease features?

I have not seen any disease from marsh, but since they harbor disease carrying insects, it should.

I think Marsh should also have a "quicksand" feature, where units sitting on marshlands occasionally get swallowed up accompanied by a sucking sound like water going down a plughole!

Want a laugh? Push some obsolete warriors into the quicksand. Now that would be cool!

Marsh does cause disease, and is not stopped by sanitation.

The idea is that you can't get rid of flood plains, but you can clear jungles and marsh to stop disease.

Flood plain disease does not seem to happen very often though.

Or, actually, based on my limited sample, it tends to happen a lot durng first 60-70 turns or so but then it hardly ever happens.

Same with volcanos, too. In my Sid game from the conquests thread I had quite a few of them on my territory. Before ~1000BC at least one of them exploded every 10 turns or so. Afterwards, nothing. Not that I'm complaining but it looks to me like the code forgets to check for negative events after a while.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Don't know about disease frequency, but volcano eruptions are set to occur at least once during a certain time frame -- in years, not turns. Since 4000 years pass very early in the game in turn-time, most volcanos will erupt early but then may be dormant for the remainder of the game.

The time frame is once every 5000 years.

Volcano frequenctly can be set by the editor. Actually it defaults to never on, and after seeing the AI have cities, workers, and military units tourched by Volanoic erruptions I know why.

Yes, Sanitation only prevents disease from flood plains. For Marsh & Jungle, you have to clear them yourself.

I also note that it is possible for disease to strike an indivudal unit. I had 2 military units parked over a jungle colony for almost a thousand years and one of them died due to disease.

I also noted that an additional undocumented AI cheat:
If you modify Clear Damage to require a tech to use this worker action, the AI can still clear damage even prior to having that tech.

But since I saw the AI workers torched trying to clear damage form a volcano when it erupted again, I might call this even.

As Willem pointed out, the default is 5000 years in an unmodded game. They blow all the time (especially in the early game) in my unmodded games.

Yes when I suddenly realize they have not popped in a long time, it is because the game turns are many, but the years are not so many. After you get to the AD, the time goes slow, but turn are more frequent.

They still don't always blow their top though. Anyone who played AU501 knows that Dominae added volcanoes to each island and upped the frequency of eruptions for the scenario. Throughout the entire game the volcanoes on my home island and the Japanese island (which quickly became my home away from home ) never once erupted. Many of the volcanoes on other islands erupted so I know it wasn't turned off.

I also never experienced plague which was supposed to hit at least once in the scenario.

The frequently of volanic erruptions in the "with plague" does seem to be often enough. Of course there are more erruptions on a per turn basis in early game, which allows safer use of those tiles as the game goes on. I've also never seen volcano torch an adjecent tile unless the volcano square itself was already marked as poluted, so there may be a point in cleaning the corruption in the volcano tile if it's not currently emiting smoke.

On plague, it appers much more likely to strike if you have workers working disased tiles than if you don't.

There's also a starting year for plague and the same tech that stops disease in flood plains tends to put an end to plague.
