Rules Finalization: Changing Teams Increase the size of your Attachments

Second of four threads. Discuss & vote. Note that I customized our poll a little where I felt FortyJ's suggestions were lacking.

This thread will hopefully resolve the issue of limitations on changing teams in mid-game.

Here are some proposed options for dealing with this issue:
  1. No changing teams permitted, under any circumstances.

  2. Changing teams is permitted, but only to another team in the other group (ie. if you were originally in group 1, you can only change to a team in group 2).

  3. Changing teams is allowed, but only after your original team is eliminated from the game. Current

  4. Changing teams is allowed at any time.

Also, if changing teams is permitted, then there is the issue of which teams a person may join and when:
  1. A person may only join the team(s) that eliminated his/her original team.

  2. A person may only join another team that his/her original team had contact with in the game.

  3. A person may only join another neighboring team that his/her original team had contact with in the game. Current (neighboring = accessible by means available at original team's level of technology)

Additionally, we must determine if there should be a waiting limit on emmigration/immigration. Should there be a mandatory waiting period (X number of turns) before a person can join another team, either after his/her original team has been eliminated from the game, or after making contact with the other civ, etc.? Current = no limits

And finally, we should determine if there should be a limit on the number of players that can join a team from a single team (either a percentage, or physical count)? Current = no limits

I think I've covered most of the issues here, but if I have omitted any, please feel free to add it below.

Becoming a member of a team is up to the rules and regulations of the team. The only qualifier is that one cannot be a part of more than one team.

Erase all the above and replace it with what I just wrote. (my opinion).

But what if someone wants to switch from one team in a group to another team? What if this person is leaving in disgrace, and tells his new team to attack his old team? Or what if it's a friendly, intentional transfer between the two teams to try to help them meet up in-game? I think allowing people to switch teams at any time, if used, will create controversies. Better, IMO, to make people stick to a team until it's eliminated.

There is nothing that stops one player from helping out his buddies on another team by, say, sending them an old save either. Or even in just saying off the wall comments. No, I would think that it would be better that if someone feels more comfortable moving teams, to let them do so when they want. The admins all should have access to the forums and can see if cheeting is going on. People will notice and talk. I see no need to make things more complicated and less fun for people. It is just a game after all. Or is it also my life.........

When people can switch teams is Issue 1; being able to switch teams at any time is option D.
