If you feel like drinking when you're there, you can drink a bottle at the counter. This way, the shopkeeper is more likely to advise you better based on feedback. Well, when I go there I tend to drink with them, but I don't think it's usual for them to share the bottles with usual clients (especially when the clients buy said bottles )

I still can't believe he had never been inside Notre Dame. It's even FREE to go in.

Just out of curiousity ... are there typical everyone-goes-here tourist stuff in New York that you've never done, Boris?

It seems pretty usual (from my experience) for people who live in such places to simply never bother. Whether that's because they find it rather a cliche, or because they always think "i can go there anytime" and just never get around to it, I don't know.

I'm back in the USA! Woohoo! Pictures to come shortly.

I had a terrific time, really. The trip went really smoothly, and I can't complain at having spent so much money in Paris, as I thoroughly enjoyed doing so. However, I'm glad to be home. Some things about Paris do make me appreciate New York more, such as cheaper transportation and food. Actually, I'd say NY was cheaper than Paris all-round (except for rents, as we discussed).

And FP: I've not done several touristy things in NY, such as the Statue of Liberty. However, Spiff worked across the street from Notre Dame! All he had to do was walk a hundred feet or so and walk right in! For free! That's a big difference. But I'm glad our being there finally coerced him into going inside. It didn't burn our flesh at all.

I believe this is looking southwestish from either the Pont Neuf or the Pont au Change. Les Miserables fans (I'm looking at you, Imran) will note that it is about at this point where Javert takes his dive into the Seine.

St. Eustache church. A real gem that seems to be pretty unknown to tourists. It lies just north of Les Halles. I have some long distance shots of it as well.
