Hotel des Invalides, the final resting place of Emperor Napoleon. It was actually CLOSED the one day we wanted to go in, which was our last day in Paris. Grrr. But we did get to walk around the courtyard a bit.

Tired of ads?

And the courtyard statue of Monsieur Bonaparte himself. I pretty much copied a photo angle from one of our guidebooks. Looks identical.

And the last one I'll post, the Arc de Triomphe. When we arrived via the Metro, our chosen exit onto the Champs d'Elysees was blocked and we were routed all the way around the circle to an exit at the far end. When we emerged, we realized why: Queen Elizabeth II was in town, and her motorcade had just arrived for a visit to the Arc and for her to saunter down the avenue. You can see in the pic a French honor guard marching around the monument. Matt asked if I wanted to get a picture of the Queen, and I said "sure, go stand in front of the Arc and I'll take one." He wasn't amused.

So you realize how lucky you were?
You got to see a real live-action protest while you were here, and you saw France's diplomatic prestige apparatus (the Republican Guard, Bernadette Chirac with good clothes), and the latter happens less than once a year. Besides, I think it is the first time in my life we welcome the Rosbif Queen for such a celebration

Its funny, but I would have sworn I've seen a similar picture to your first one (taken across the moat at edo castle). Thats why I was confused (that and the onrush of senility).

Something like this?

A little similar to Himeji-jo in appearance, but much smaller as this is just a guard tower on the moat. Edo-jo's donjon was destroyed long ago, IIRC.

Hehehe, why would I then post a pic of that boil of a building which would contradict that idea?

Actually, our hotel was very close to the Centre Pompidou, and we walked by it almost every night on our way to and from Le Marais.

I thinks its more like saw a very similar picture to your first one (including the cherry blossom) then another with the guard tower and moat around Edo-castle and merged them in my memory (since the yellow wall under Himeji-jo and the moat wall have a similar construction style).
