Patch 1.22 released Tired of ads?

Firaxis have just released patch 1.22 on their site. The patch requires patch 1.20 to be installed first. Fixes some of the issues discussed in this forum.

I imagine this was a really quick fix for specific things, and I'd bet a larger, more substantial patch will be coming in the next week that has "all in one" status.

Some things are still not done 100% with 1.22:

-MPTournament.biq still has Radio tech fully implemented
-same for all other optional biq files in scenario folder
-not all Civilopedia entries for Radar Towers are fixed (Radar Tower decsription from Game Concept group of entries and Worker Actions group of entries still refer to Radio)
-Readme.txt in conquest folder is not updated, while one in text folder is
-readme and installer refer to 1.21 patch

Still, I could call all this a group of minor bugs.

Suffering from ads?

I just have to say that I'm really glad Firaxis admitted to making a mistake and attempted to fix it as quickly as possible. In my line of work a very simple mistake could cost the company a lot of money. Mistakes do happen (though most of the time not ones that cost money which is good). Luckily my company takes the road that they do happen and if you act to correct your mistake and learn from it so as not to make it again then it's not a bad thing.

In this case the mistake has been made and now fixed and I'd like to think Firaxis has learned from it to do a bit more testing before sending out patches since even minor changes can have resounding affects.

I guess this was a long winded way to say 'cool' , and I'm glad Firaxis is working to correct the mistakes made. I won't be one of the ones to hold this mistake against them.

Neither will I, despite much verbage on my part. However, my call to community and Firaxis is sincere. Firaxis, go ahead now, move on to CIV 4, may all blessings and Good Fortune be with you and your efforts. There are indeed 'many' thankful and cheering you on.

Meanwhile... an arrangement for some organized group of CIV fanatics to 'access the code' and commence to produce the 'changes' and 'tweaks' we keep crying for I believe is advantageous to all. We will know first hand what can do. Will be responsible for the results, may better preserve and enhance the legacy of CIV3 as Conquests. We will build a better MP and Editor that even bold Mods can be built upon. More money to Firaxis will flow from base sales of the underlying CIV3, Conquests Vanilla and your reputation Firaxis will I believe have a better chance. Nothing that personal about this pragmatic observation, just dealing with 'what is' now on the table.

Sincerely,

I'd say they keep dropping their patches on this forum as soon as they have it coded. This is probably the best community of testers. Within a few hours the bugs have been documented. Cheap and quick. In that way Firaxis can save some money they can invest in faster coding.

Therefore a faster good working patch for us all. I see "win-win" oppurtunities....

Perhaps so, but being a 'beta tester' for Firaxis for the umpteenth time is beginning to get on people's nerves.

It's in the nature of many to complain. I'd like to focus on the result.
Firaxis would in my opinion be better off to anounce it as non tested. I think there are enough people here that are keen on taking up the challenge to come first with a bug report (as they do now allready).

If they're smart there's not even a need to tell us that we're working as beta testers for them.
Just release a patch as a beta, as they did several times already. While you intend to publish it as an official patch 1 week later.

See how the beta is received. If it's received wel, just higher the version number slightly, and release the same patch as 'official'.

If it's received very badly, nobody will blame them since it's a beta, and just fix the found bugs.

It's as easy as breathing!

They should really hire me.

They already did that. They tend to introduce new bugs into the release versions.

The problem is people WILL blame them regardless, and publishing the patch one week later means another week of people railing and complaining about how long it takes and how simple it is and how they could all do it wonderfully if they only had the chance.

It's really a no-win situation for gaming companies when this attitude is prevalent.

To a great extent I agree..........I usually end up trying to defend companies. In this case it's the recent official post explaining why finishing this game is very low priority that have made me edge more towards criticism. I suspect this is true of many of those 'whining' in this and recent threads.

Well, I think I didn't saw much people heavily complaining about the bugs in the beta-patches.
It was more one big hosana for Firaxis releasing beta patches.

Of course there always will be people who even require beta patches to be flawless. But hey, they are the true idiots!

But on the other hand, people who complain about bugs in official patches have a point.
Thus: first release a beta patch. Wait one week to see if any major bugs appear. If not, release it as an official patch.

Firaxis can be certain that if *we* find no major bugs in 1 week, no major bugs will be found at all.
