1. Don't make your post too long. People don't like to read books.

2. Don't write big paragraphs. They are hard to read.

3. When you reply, don't reply to more than one person in a single message. It is very confusing who you are responding to and you make your message longer than necessary.

4. When you quote, you should leave the header in (poster of the message and when the message was posted).

I am the worst culprit for long paragraphs and referring to who I am replying to. i will see what I can do, but sometimes, when I get into my stride I find it difficult to stop typing. I write like I speak (nearly)

You should try to tell that the guys in the civ3 forum. They'll feel offended at once. They at least felt offended when I tried to tell them that it would be better to make their posts smaller.

I don't think any of you have been long enough here to have read one of my past long posts, they're 'essay-like' (one called them so) a page or two long.

If I make a long post, essay-like, in one of the economic or social thread in OT, does that bother you ?

Frankly, I think that people who complain about essay-like posts, never have read a real essay.

Also if I, in that same thread give a "general reply" sort of aimed to all person in that thread, does that bother you too ?

Andz, I don't know you very well and I've read few posts of you and non outside of OT, but everytime I read one you are either shouting or having a fight (you are not the only I know) that's why I said 'you seem good at inulting others'. (which BTW was a reply on an insult)

I had no intend in putting you down.

To answer your questions:

1. Very long messages tend to get ignored. The Web is a very different media than paper and you should adjust your writing style accordingly. If you must write an essay, do it in the inverted pyramid style.

2. General replies are fine as long as you don't try to respond to everybody's specific points all in the same message.
