	New SMAC player... kinda Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Hello people. I've had SMAC for a while. I have SMAC:AX too, but for some reason, it doesn't like my computers processor. Anyway, I have a few questions concerning the multiplayer acpest of SMAC.

1.) What do i need to play SMAC online?
2.) Is there anyplace where people get together to play games(like a chat room or something)?
3.) How do you connect to a game?

Anyway, I hope to be able to get conquered online soon.

Don't worry I'm not that good and haven't played in awhile. But to play online, you have one person host (giving their IP) and the other players connect to them with the IP and you can play a live game through the TCP/IP method.
Usually after a point you save it and start playing play by e-mail from there.
You can start from the very beginning as Play-by-e-mail though. Basically it requires for one person to be the one to admin/moderate the passwords. So that one person can't cheat. Can we get a volunteer for this?

Welcome Zerokal.

You can do the TCP/IP thing or Play By Email (PBEM). And this whole place is filled with ppl who are willing to join a game.

I'm up for PBEM, someone will have to walk me through it though. I usually play as the Spartans or the University on huge maps. I cant seem to beat a game above the difficulty of specialist.

New thread is "PBEM... my first... yeah... " by Zerokal. I think the name of the game should be Zerokal's First, but I'm open to suggestions. Those who are playing should send a private message to DataAeolus with your desired faction and password so he can get this set up soon. If you don't give him a password he'll have to make one up for you and send you it. The passwords make sure nobody steals your turn or takes a peek at what you're up to.

Hmmm I took Gaians in last PBEM. Might as well try University then, since I am no good of a player .

Another one? Really! I want to play! If possible... Assuming SMAC, and Obstructor is Uni this time, I'll take Gaians then.... one other thing... Zerokai, when you say SMAX doesn't like your processor, do you mean you get the 'CPU not supported' message? If so, that's standard... You can fix that by:

You will need to modify a line in the Alpha Centauri.ini that is located in the game folder. To do this:

Double click on My Computer
Double click on the C: Local Drive (your Hard Drive or the drive that the game is installed to)
Double click on the Program Files Folder
Double click on the Firaxis Games Folder
Double click on the Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Folder]
Double click on the Alpha Centauri.ini File (The file looks like a read me text file with a little gold symbol on it).

Once the file is open in Notepad, change:

ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0

to

ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1

Be sure to save your changes, then run the game. You may still receive the error message. If it occurs, click OK and the game will load fine.

Ouro: I fixed the problem. Checked out that one thread in the general forum, saw a solution, tried it and it worked.

Another thing, I have the SMAC v4 patch, SMAX v2 patch and tht win 2k, XP compatibility patch.
